Fresh cut Christmas trees are seeing a rebirth of popularity, especially this year. Since Mark Vetter began selling the holiday trees decades ago, 2020 is shaping up to be the “best year ever” for sales. Typically he sells between 300 and 400 trees. This year, he expects to sell around 500. The Rochert resident provides variety for those looking for a real tree. He has an assortment of Scotch pines, Balsam fir and the highly sought after Fraser fir.
Helping senior citizens in ones community might come with a padded benefit of paying down student loan debt. Volunteers have the opportunity to bring in an additional income of $150 or $250 per month. And, if a pre-set hour requirement is met, there is the opportunity to receive up to $1,600 in an education grant, which can go toward student debt. The opportunity for a student loan pay of is in collaboration with AmeriCorps.
A cookie drive-by will be held in Frazee at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Sunday, Dec. 13. Picking up a box of assorted homemade cookies will also help send area youth to camp. The cookies will be sold in one pound boxes and people can decide if they want all Christmas cookies, traditional treats or a mixed assortment.

Over $30,000 in drugs have been seized during a sting operation in Frazee and four men are facing felony charges. The drug bust is the largest Frazee has seen in the 17 years Police Chief Kelly Shannon has worked for the local force. Wednesday, Nov. 29, Frazee police and the West Central Minnesota Drug Task Force arrested one local man, along with two others from Willmar. Monday, Dec. 4, another Frazee man was charged in connection with the sting operation.
After a 12-day radar check of vehicle speeds in Frazee, the average speed of motorists was determined to be 29.4 miles per hour. During the Monday, Dec. 4 Frazee City Council meeting, Police Chief Kelly Shannon said repeated concerns about speeders in Frazee were one of the reasons the police department initiated the speed check.

Perry’s supper club located five miles southwest of Vergas has a new owner. He is Donald Firnhaber, who is professionally known as Don Ford. He has been affiliated with WDAY, Inc. in Fargo since 1958. Ford and his family make their home on Lake Lida, where they own and operate Ford’s North Shore Resort. Perry’s was opened by Perry Swenson in 1939. Paul Anderson of Vergas purchased the business from the Swenson family recently. The family had operated Perrys following Mr. Swenson’s death in 1957.
The Frazee Babe Ruth baseball team will be conducting a paper drive in Frazee the end of December during Christmas vacation. Residents are asked to save their old papers and bundle them up for the drive which is tentatively set for Dec. 28-39.
The VFW Auxiliary held their annual Christmas Party on Monday, December 1st. A girl vocalist, accompanying herself on the guitar, and Pop Group II from Frazee High School provided entertainment before the business meeting. A new member, Barb Holmer, recommended by Agnes Korf, was welcomed to the Auxiliary.
