The Frazee Hornets dropped a pair of home games in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference last week to open their season and will look to rebound when they hit the road for another pair of conference games this week.

On Tuesday the Hornets will travel to Barnesville, before hitting the road on Friday as they travel to Breckenridge to take on the Cowboys.
Frazee will return home on Tuesday, Dec. 16 when they host New York Mills.

A combination of first game jitters, cold shooting from the start of the game and too many turnovers proved to be too much for the Frazee Hornets to overcome on Tuesday night as they fell to the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels 65-53 on Tuesday night. The Hornets were down 28-12 at halftime, but were able to cut the Rebels lead to just five points in the second half thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers just five minutes into the final 18 minutes of action.
“Proud of how we battled back. We cut it to five at the 12:51 mark on back to back 3’s by Dawson Lyman and Adam Vigen. It stayed around that deficit until we started fouling at the end,” said head coach Ryan Vigen.
The Hornets shot just 28.1 percent from the floor, compared to 42 percent by the Rebels and turned the ball over 22 times in the game, which was actually less than the 25 turnovers committed by the Rebels.
Despite the loss, Vigen said he was happy to see how the Hornets bounced back in the second half to outscore the Rebels 41-37 and remain in the contest until the end of the game.
“Pretty happy with our defense overall and nice to see us bounce back to score 41 in the second half,” said Vigen.
The Hornets were led offensively by Adam Vigen who scored 23 points to go along with nine rebounds and five steals. Ben Reierson scored 11 points, while Ayden Grossman scored seven, Dawson Lyman scored six, Noah Mekalson scored four and Mason Mickelson rounded out the scoring with two points in the loss.

The Frazee Hornets were able to attack the basket throughout the night and outscored the visiting Staples-Motley Cardinals 40-24 in the paint, but went just 2-21 from behind the 3-point line to fall for the second straight time to open the season by a score of 73-65.
The Hornets trailed 42-32 at halftime, but kept the game within single digits throughout the second half and picked up an impressive 18 assists on 26 made shots from the field and secured 13 offensive rebounds to help the team pick up some important second chance points. Frazee also did a better job of taking care of the ball by turning it over just 14 times in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference loss.
“Pretty happy with the effort. We just need to make shots and take care of the ball a little better,” said head coach Ryan Vigen.
Ayden Grossman led the way offensively for the Hornets as he scored 18 points, while Adam Vigen recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Noah Mekalson also reached double figures with 11 points, while Mason Mickelson went 4-5 from the field to finish with 10 points.
