Vergas garage a total loss in Dec. 20 fire

A detached garage was determined to be a total loss after a fire was reported in the morning of December 20 near Vergas.
According to a report from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, a fire in a detached garage was reported around 10:45 a.m. at 27854 425th St. near Vergas. The fire had fully engulfed the garage as the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Pelican Fire Department and Vergas Fire Department arrived on the scene.
According to authorities, the fire started from a double barrel wood stove in the garage. It is unknown at the time of press how the fire escaped the stove and ignited the garage. The fire was extinguished and the detached garage was determined to be a total loss.
There were no injuries reported from the incident.
