Tuesday
The Frazee Hornets captured first place in their portion of the Pelican Rapids Holiday Tournament on Tuesday by defeating a tough West Central Area team by a score of 67-58.
“We excelled on keeping them off the board and picking apart their defense by sharing the ball flawlessly and unselfishly,” said head coach Trey Heinsius.
Jayden Sonnenberg led the way offensively with 26 points, while Brynn Larson scored 22 points and Katie Courneya reached double figures with 10 points of her own.
Also chipping in for the Hornets was Leslie Moore with four points, Ellie Trieglaff with three points and Aynslee Johannsen with two points of her own.
While the duo of Sonnenberg and Larson are leading the Hornet charge in the scoring column, Heinsius complimented the play of a number of other Frazee players as really standing out over the past few games.
“The excellent defense by Ruby Eckert has really shown the past week and her talent of shutting down other teams best players is not going unnoticed,” he said. “After the outstanding 7-8 3-point shooting from Ellie Trieglaff in Hawley, her confidence is up and showing in her shooting and hustle. Having Leslie Moore back and playing healthy is a big presence in our defense and in the paint for offense.”
