In partnership with Brainy Ink, Lake Agassiz Regional Library has scheduled a tour of STEM activities around the library system’s seven-county region. Youth are invited to enjoy hands-on learning, joyful play, and a fun-filled day of STEM-inspired stations designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and learning through play with Brainy Ink. Families are invited to explore, discover, and play together as they engage in a variety of activities that support early learning, problem-solving, and joyful exploration.

This event is geared towards families with children ages 2-10, but all are welcome. 

The tour is scheduled as follows:

• Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. at the Barnesville Public Library

• Friday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes Public Library

• Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hawley Public Library

• Friday, Feb. 6 at 3:30 p.m. at the Moorhead Public Library

The Detroit Lakes Public Library’s Tuesday Afternoon Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. to discuss The Women by Kristin Hannah, which was the most circulated title for Lake Agassiz Regional Library in 2025. The historical novel takes readers on a journey through the Vietnam War through the eyes of a nurse named Frankie. 

Attention, puzzlers. The library will test local puzzlers focus, speed and teamwork during a Puzzle Competition offered Saturday, Jan. 24 from 1-3 p.m. Registration is required and slots are limited – register at www.larl.org/events or by calling the library at (218) 847-2168. 

Later in the month, the Detroit Lakes Library Club is thrilled to welcome featured speaker Dr. Roy Hammerling on Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 2-3 p.m. Dr. Hammerling will give a talk on how libraries saved civilization, including how the written word, books and libraries came to be and why we cannot live without them. This event is sponsored by Detroit Lakes Library Club, and is free and open to all. Attendees are encouraged to come early to enjoy refreshments.

Those interested in exploring their family history are also encouraged to register today for the library’s upcoming Beginning Genealogy Workshop, which is scheduled Thursday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. Register by visiting www.larl.org/events or by calling the library.
