0Grab your snowshoes or rent a pair of from Glendalough State Park and come see the park in winter. On Saturday, Jan. 31, join state park staff for a family-friendly adventure on snowshoes.
Meet at the Council Ring below the Sunset Lake trailhead parking lot at 10 a.m. Volunteers will have a fire going while participants wait. Dress for the weather and expect to snowshoe about two miles. If there isn’t enough snow, wear a good pair of winter boots. Participants will head towards an overlook of the Beaver Pond, where they might get a glimpse of otters, trumpeter swans, geese, or maybe a surprise or two.
Volunteers will bring a spotting scope and binoculars. A limited number of snowshoes are available to rent at the park office, so come early if you need to rent. Call the park at (218) 261-6900 for more information.
Those who want to extend their visit, bring a lunch to eat by the fire in the dining hall, or reserve a cozy camper cabin for an overnight stay. In the event of extreme cold or winter storms, please call the park or check the park’s webpage under “visitor alerts” for program status.
Vehicles entering the park need either a daily ($7) or annual ($35) park pass, which can be purchased at the park entrance. Glendalough State Park is located 1.5 miles north of Battle Lake on State Hwy. #78 and 1.8 miles east on Otter Tail Co. Hwy #16 to the park entrance.
