When Megan Galligan returned to her counseling job at Frazee High School a few years ago, many of her colleagues and students didn’t recognize her “I lost 100 pounds in nine months,” she said, noting there was no crash diet or surgery involved, and the weight loss itself was a secondary concern. Her primary focus was rewiring her thoughts and tastes after a lifetime of poor health choices.
Howard Elijah is known in the area for creating eye-catching, unique artwork for logos, decals for vehicles and much more. He is also now a winner in the very competitive Air Stick Stencils art competition. The 1982 Frazee High School graduate said the company runs a competition, usually once a month, with the prize being product from their shelves.
The Frazee VFW and AmVets teamed up to ensure every classroom at Frazee Elementary had a U.S. flag properly hung. Teachers Shelly Oswald and Sheila Jepson informed the AmVets at one of their meetings that some classrooms didn’t have flags, or they were taped to the wall.

Frazee High School will have two seniors and two juniors participating in the Close-Up program in Washington, D.C., on March 3, 1991. They are seniors Jennifer Hesby and Ann Peichel and juniors Laura Robinson and Daniel Haman. Their traveling advisor will be secondary social/sociology/Spanish teacher Al Houdek.
With schools closed on Martin Luther King’s birthday Monday, some kids had fun sliding on the Catholic church hill.
Frazee’s 100th birthday party will be Sunday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Frazee High School Gym. Eleanor Illg and Doris Myers are coordinating with four other area cake decorators to design and decorate Frazee’s 100th birthday cake. They are Linda Jutz, Sharon Strom, Janet Christen and Kathy Peichel.

Becky Salmonson has been named Frazee High School’s 1975-76 “Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow.” Becky, 18, a senior at FHS, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Salmonson. She now becomes eligible for State and National Honors and will receive a specially designed award from General Mills, Inc., sponsor of the program. The test for seniors competing was taken in December. Miss Salmonson plans to attend Golden Valley College next fall.
It’s Sno-Ball Week at Frazee High School and excitement is running high in preparation for the Sno-Ball Royalty coronation at 10:30 a.m. Friday. FHA King and Queen candidates are John Matejka and Dorothy Nistler. Prince and Princess candidates are Richard Blanchard and Lori Mayer. FFA King and Queen candidates are Jerry Sander and Shirley Moss. Prince and Princess candidates are Ward Lenius and Jolyn Hanson. The Student Council King and Queen candidates are Brian Mickelson and Linda Ziegler. Prince and Princess candidates are Mike Dretsch and Barb Mickelson.
