Grace Hamm improved to 8-0 overall and captured first place at the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie girls wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Hamm, who is currently ranked 10th in the state at 136 lbs., took first place in the 130 lbs. bracket after securing a 5-3 decision over previously undefeated Elizabeth Radermacher of BBE by a 5-3 decision in the opening round. She went on to secure four straight pins over Kylee Minder of Mille Lacs in 31 seconds, Isabella Kapinos of Mille Lacs in 4:44, Jolene Fosse of OTC in 2:32 and Jasmine Ulrich of WCA in 1:51 to finish the day a perfect 5-0 and improve to 8-0 on the season.

Rachael Courneya finished in second place at 106 lbs. as the seventh grader secured a first period pin over Amora Puttbrese of BGMR at 1:02 in the opening round, before securing another pin over Jasmine Barlow of Roseau in the semi-finals at the 1:37 mark of the match to advance to the championship. In the finals, Courneya fell to Trinity Smaker of Mille Lacs by a tech fall to finish the tournament in second place. Courneya is currently 4-2 on the season.

Lola Hoehne finished in fifth place for the Hornets at 124 lbs. and Kienna Ard finished in seventh place at 136 lbs. 

As a team the Hornets finished in eighth place overall with 68 points with Staples-Motley winning the tournament with 127 points. Frazee was just behind New York Mills with 72 points and Spectrum with 76.5 points.
