The Frazee Hornets picked up their third win of the season last week, a 70-54 win over Menahga on the road. The game was sandwiched in-between a pair of Heart O’ Lakes Conference losses to both Hawley 63-54 and Breckenridge 78-57.

Noah Mekalson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds against the Menahga Braves last week.

This week the Hornets will travel to Staples-Motley on Monday night and Perham on Friday night in a pair of conference games.

After a back-and-forth first half. Hawley was able to pull away in the final 18 minutes of action to secure a 63-54 win over the Frazee Hornets on Monday night. The Hornets trailed just 30-26 at halftime and was to claw back into the game midway through the final 18 minutes of action before the Nuggets were able to come away with the Heart O’ Lakes Conference win.

The Hornets struggled down low throughout the night shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and just 18-41 from inside the 3-point line. Frazee also struggled to knock down several key free throws as they went just 9-21 from the free throw line.

“We can’t miss 20 shots in the paint and miss 12 free throws and expect to win.  That being said, we played with more energy tonight and that was good to see.  Noah had a monster game on the boards for us,” said head coach Ryan Vigen.

The Hornets were led offensively by Adam Vigen who scored 15 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Noah Mekalson finished with a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Ayden Grossman scored nine points, Ben Reierson scored eight points, Conner Erickson scored seven points, while Paul Sharp and Dawson Lyman rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

Frazee led early, and never looked back, as they secured a 70-54 win over the Menahga Braves in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

“It was good to get another win.  We moved the ball well on offense and we have been rebounding much better as of late,” said head coach Ryan Vigen.

The Hornet defense played well throughout the night as they forced 21 Menahga turnovers, which led to 24 points off of turnovers and 15 steals. The Hornets also hit 11 3-pointers and went an impressive 11-14 from the free throw line.

Thursday

Frazee hosted one of the top teams in both the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and a loaded Section 6A on Thursday night and fell to the Breckenridge Cowboys by a score of 78-57.

The Cowboys jumped out to an early lead, which they would never surrender about midway through the first half, and led 42-30 at halftime. The two teams played back-and-forth in the second half, but the Hornets turned the ball over 28 times, which led to 34 points off of turnovers for Breckenridge as they came away with the conference and section win.

“We finished better tonight, Noah especially, and I thought we were decent defensively in the first half, but It’s hard to win when you turn it over 28 times,” said head coach Ryan Vigen. “We kind of ran out of juice tonight and that can happen in weeks when you have three games.”

As a team the Hornets once again rebounded the ball well as they pulled down 39 rebounds as a team and 19 rebounds on the offensive end of the court.

Noah Mekalson came just two rebounds short of his third straight double-double for the week as he scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Adam Vigen scored 17 points and finished with eight rebounds, while Ayden Grossman scored seven points, Paul Sharp scored five points, Dawson Lyman scored four points and Ben Reierson, Mason Mickelson and Maison Olson rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.
