For the fifth consecutive year, the Frazee Hornets and United North Central Warriors squared off in the Section 8A championship match. Unfortunately for the Hornets, for the fifth straight year Frazee came up just short in its bid to return to the state wrestling tournament as the fifth ranked Warriors edged the Hornets by a score of 49-16.
The loss ended the Hornets season with a record of 12-11 overall as they will gear up for the section individual tournament on Friday in Crookston.
Tuesday
Frazee won three matches by forfeit and three more by a pin on their way to a 39-26 win over Barnesville in the opening round of the Section 8A tournament on Tuesday night.
The Trojans won three of the opening four matches of the night, before Christian Peichel won an 8-4 decision at 133 lbs. to make the score 12-9 in favor of Barnesville.
Liam Hamm and Cash Osterman put the Hornets in front for good with back-to-back pins at 139 and 145 lbs. in a combined 96 seconds.
The Hornets put the match out of reach for good when Blake Sonnenberg secured a pin over Michael Connelly at the 1:31 mark of the match to put Frazee in front 27-15.
Winning by forfeit for the Hornets were Ashton Reller, Tanner Moe and Jan Carlos Rodello.

The second seeded Frazee Hornets advanced to their fifth straight section title match with a tough 34-31 win over sixth seeded Roseau in the semi-finals on Friday night at Fertile-Beltrami High School.
After dropping two of the opening three matches of the dual, Frazee went on a tear from 127 to 145 lbs. by winning all four matches by either decision or pin/forfeit to jump out to a 23-12 lead. Roseau cut into that lead a bit with a major decision at 152 lbs., before Blake Sonnenberg secured a win by forfeit at 160 lbs. to push Frazee’s lead to 29-16 heading into the final four matches of the day.
Tanner Moe put the match out of reach with a big tech fall at 215 lbs. to give the Hornets a 34-25 lead and help them advance to the section finals for the fifth straight year.
In the finals, the Hornets and Warriors squared off for the fifth straight year for the right to go to state. The fifth ranked Warriors were once again able to come away with the section title, this time by a score of 49-16 and end Frazee’s bid for a return to the state tournament.
UNC won the opening five bouts of the match before Christian Peichel put the Hornets on the scoreboard with a 9-8 decision at 133 lbs. The Hornets and Warriors traded victories from 139 to 172 lbs. with Cash Osterman securing an 11-1 major decision, Blake Sonnenberg securing a 7-2 decision and Tanner Moe winning by a fall to eventually end the score 49-16 in favor of the Warriors.
