The 10th ranked Frazee Hornets remain tied atop the Heart O’ Lakes Conference after securing a pair of wins, including a 61-50 victory over Pelican Rapids in conference action on Friday night.

Aynslee Johannsen and Ellie Trieglaff converge on a Henning ball handler during Thursday’s non-conference game against the Hornets.

The win improved the Hornets to 19-4 overall, as well as 12-3 in the conference with just one conference game remaining on their schedule. The Hornets are tied with Perham atop the HOL Conference with both teams having just one game remaining as part of their conference schedule.

The Hornets will take on Hawley on Tuesday night in their final conference game of the season, Frazee fell to the Nuggets  83-73 in December, while the Yellowjackets will take on Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday in their final conference game of the season. The two games will not only potentially decide the conference standings, but could also go a long ways to securing one of the top seeds in an extremely competitive Section 8AA tournament which is scheduled to get underway next week.

In addition to Tuesday’s game against the Nuggets, Frazee will host Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday night in non-conference action in their regular season finale.

Friday

The Frazee Hornets picked up an important win to remain tied with Perham atop of the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and put themselves in the drivers seat to claim at least a share of the conference title with a 61-50 win over Pelican Rapids on Friday night. The Hornets and Yellowjackets split the regular season series against each other and both enter the final week of the regular season with an identical 12-3 record in conference action.

The Hornets will take on Hawley on Tuesday night in their final conference game of the season, Frazee fell to the Nuggets  83-73 in December, while the Yellowjackets will take on Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday in their final conference game of the season.

“A huge conference win that puts Frazee at the top of the conference. A full team game with everyone impacting,” said head coach Trey Hensius. “Brynn Larson dominated the boards with 25 rebounds. Jayden Sonnenberg led with 30 points. Some big 3’s to start the game from Ellie Trieglaff that helped the hornets start rolling. Lastly great defense by Leslie Moore and Ruby Eckert.”

As a team the Hornets shot just 31.3 percent from the floor, but pulled down an astounding 23 offensive rebounds to give themselves enough second chance points to survive a feisty Pelican Rapids Vikings team.

Jayden Sonnenberg once again had a solid night from the floor as she knocked down four 3-pointers and went a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. She recorded a double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Brynn Larson was a force on both the offensive and defensive end of the court as she pulled down 25 rebounds to go along with 12 points to record a double-double of her own.
