Adam Vigen etched his name in history on Tuesday night as the Frazee senior became the school’s all-time leading scorer as part of a 70-41 win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.  Vigen came into the game needing just five points to break the mark and quickly surpassed the mark on his way to a 13 point night that also included six assists and four rebounds.

In addition to Tuesday’s win over the Wolverines, the Hornets played one of their best games of the season against sixth ranked Pelican Rapids in a 79-60 defeat to the Vikings.

This week the Hornets will return home for three straight home games against Hawley on Tuesday, Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday and Park Christian on Friday night. Frazee is currently 4-17 on the season and have four more games on their schedule.

Frazee wasted little time jumping out to an early lead and never looked back on their way to a 70-41 win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Warriors on Tuesday night. The Hornets led from the onset and held a 34-12 lead at the halftime break.

“We really played well right out of the gate.  I thought we defended well and really shared the basketball on offense,” said head coach Ryan Vigen.

As a team the Hornets shot 44.6 percent from the floor and knocked down five 3-pointers on their way to the commanding win over the Wolverines. The Hornets played tough on the defensive end of the court by holding Wadena-Deer Creek to under 26 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers that led to 17 points off of turnovers and 17 points transition points int he win. The Hornets also held a big 40-22 advantage in points in the paint in the win.

Frazee senior Adam Vigen etched his name in the school record books on Tuesday as he became the Hornets all-time leading scorer after finishing the night with 13 points, six assists and four rebounds.

“Adam set the school scoring record for career points.  It was fun for us to be able to celebrate that accomplishment with his teammates after the game,” said Vigen.

The Hornets were led offensively by Noah Mekalson who went 6-9 from the field to finish with 14 points, while Ayden Grossman also scored 14 points on 5-11 shooting from the floor.

The Frazee Hornets had the tall task of trying to knock off one of the top teams in Class A on Thursday night as the sixth ranked Pelican Rapids Vikings hosted the Hornets in a tough Heart O’ Lakes Conference showdown. While the Hornets put together one of their best games of the season, ultimately the Vikings were able to pull away in the second half and pick up a 79-58 win at home.

After falling to the Vikings by a score of 73-41 the first time around, the Hornets trailed just 41-30 at halftime and by just five points at one point in the second half as Frazee shot over 44 percent from the field and turned the ball over just 14 times against one of the better defensive teams in Class A.

“I thought we played one of our best games of the season. I think we cut their lead to five early in the second half. We battled the whole way but just kind of ran out of gas,” said head coach Ryan Vigen. “Ben played great, he really took a step tonight.”

The difference in the game came from the 3-point line where the Vikings went 8-18, as well as the free throw line where they went 15-21. Frazee, on the other hand, knocked down just three 3-pointers and made just 7-13 shots from the free throw line. As a team the Vikings took advantage of some home town bounces and shot 56 percent from the floor.

The Hornets were led offensively by Ben Reierson who had a solid night from the floor with 18 points, while Adam Vigen scored 13 to go along with nine rebounds and Noah Mekalson scored 10 points.

Ayden Grossman scored nine points, Paul Sharp scored six and Mason Mickelson rounded out the scoring with two points in the loss.
