Frazee kicked off the section tournament on Monday night as the 18th seeded Hornets traveled to 15th seeded Brandon-Evansville in the pig tail games. The winner of Monday’s game will travel to second seeded Pelican Rapids on Thursday night, while the quarterfinals will be held on Saturday at the high seed. The winner of Thursdays game will take on either seventh seeded Hancock or 10th seeded West Central Area.

The section tournament will continue next week with the semi-finals being held on Wednesday, March 11 in Perham and the championship game taking place on Friday, March 13 at Concordia College in Moorhead.

Section 6A will be one of the best sections in Class A with five teams ranked in the top 19 in the QRF standings, including top seeded and top ranked Henning at four, second seeded Pelican Rapids at one, third seeded Park Christian at 16, fourth seeded Breckenridge at 11 and fifth seeded Hillcrest Lutheran Academy at 19 in the QRF.

The Hornets enter the playoffs with a record of 6-19 overall after falling to West Central Area by a score of 66-45 on Thursday night.

The Hornets led for a majority of the first half, but a late run by the Knights gave them a 41-26 lead at halftime, which carried over into the second half where they once again outscored Frazee by a 25-19 margin.

Frazee’s defense played well throughout the contest by forcing 19 Knight turnovers and 12 deflections, but ultimately West Central Area was able to control the paint by outscoring the Hornets by a 44-24 margin down low and held a 46-35 margin in rebounding.

Ben Reierson and Ayden Grossman led the way offensively with 11 points apiece, while Adam Vigen scored eight points, Noah Mekalson scored six, Conner Erickson scored three and Paul Sharp, Mason Mickelson and Mason Conger rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.
