Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes is proud to welcome Kristine Stompro, a certified physician assistant who will practice orthopedic surgery.

“I have always gravitated towards orthopedics because I enjoy the tangible nature of the specialty. It’s very hands-on,” explained Stompro, who has worked at Essentia Health Urgent Care-Detroit Lakes for eight years as a physician assistant. “I love that you can use palpation, range of motion and strength testing and have a good idea of the injury or issue to address.”

Stompro received her education from Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon, and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

“Prior to physician assistant school, I worked in athletic training,” said Stompro. “I’ve always enjoyed managing sports injuries and rehabilitation and am looking forward to starting in this new role.”
