Two record setting Hornets recently met in the main gym. Mitch Anderson set the all-time scoring record for the boys basketball program in 1993. The Perham-Dent School District superintendent congratulated Jack Courneya on setting a new record, despite a shortened senior season.

Being a stereotypical Midwestern mom with a bit of creative flair punched Amber Schwartzrock’s ticket to comedic stardom. The Frazee resident recently hit a half million views on TikTok, has gained gained 30,000 subscribers to her channel ThatMidwesternMom and was recently interviewed by the Twin Cities talk show, “The Jason Show.”

Lyle Krieg kept the griddles filled with flapjacks to serve the visitors of the Vergas Maple Syrup Festival. The seating in the Vergas Event Center stayed filled near capacity and the drive-thru option saw a continuous string of cars.

Trumpeter swans return—This pair of trumpeter swans returned to the area last week and were photographed by local photographer John Dermody. The swans with tag numbers 144 and 93 were swimming in open water near the Old Highway 10 bridge where the Otter Tail River flows through East Town Lake.

Congratulations to the Frazee high school band members who journeyed to Moorhead last week to participate in the District 23 music contest. Out of 18 solo and ensemble entries, 14 received excellent ratings from the judges.

The Frazee Golf Course opened for play Saturday and the course directors said the course wintered well and that the greens look very good. The 9-hole course is located one mile east of Frazee on Highway 87. The golf board also announced that Bob Miller will be managing the clubhouse this season. Miller, a native of Frazee and avid golf enthusiast, is an elementary school teacher at Alvarado, Minnesota., near Grand Forks. His duties begin on May 15, although he will not move to Frazee for the summer until the school term ends.

April 15, 1976

Positive identification of only one victim has been made of a fire which destroyed a farm house near Wolf Lake Minn. April 3. The remains of eight-year-old Brian Rusness was identified by dental examinations. It is also feared that the boys parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Rusness, also died in the fire. Adult bones were found about five feet apart but it has not been determined whether they are the remains of one or two persons. Officials are presently assuming that both Bernard Rusness, 48, and his wife, Peggy, 41, died in the fire.

An 18-year old Perham woman was killed and three other persons, including a Frazee man, were injured in a one-car accident Wednesday, April 7 near Detroit Lakes. The victim, Donna Twyman, 18, was dead on arrival at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Twyman of Perham. The injured included Dale Moran, 22, Detroit Lakes, the driver of the car, Donald Hayes, 18, Frazee, and Marion McGowan, 18, Perham. Moran was listed in serious condition and the others in fair condition at St. Mary’s Hospital on Friday.

The Frazee High School Concert, under the direction of Mrs. Joyce Kelly Riebe, was awarded two superior, starred, ratings at the District 23 Music Contest for Large Groups held on Tuesday, March 30, at Rothsay and will advance to the State-Region contest held at Elbow lake on May 7 and 8.
