Frazee secured a 9-5 win over the Park Rapids Area Panthers last week. The win improves the Hornets to 1-2 on the season and in the conference as they gear up for a busy slate of games due to inclement weather earlier this season.
In their first game of the night, Frazee and Park Rapids combined for 14 runs and 14 hits to go along with a combined eight errors. Fortunately for the Hornets they were on the receiving end of six of those errors as they came away with a 9-5 win.
The Hornets opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Noah Mekalson, before Park Rapids answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning on a pair of Hornet errors.
Mekalson gave the Hornets a 3-2 lead in the top of the first inning when he hit a two-run home run over the left field wall, but the Panthers answered with a two-run home run of their own in the bottom half of the third inning to once again take a 4-3 lead.
After the Hornets took a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning, Park Rapids tied the game up at 5-5 in the fifth, before Frazee took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning when Conner Erickson earned a bases loaded walk to bring Mason Mickelson across the plate.
Frazee added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning when Dawson Lyman, Mason Mickelson and Karson Krause were all walked to load up the bases. Mekalson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Lyman across the plate and Erickson hit a two-run single to make the score 9-5, where it would eventually end.
The Hornets were led offensively by Krause who went 3-4 at the plate, while Mekalson went 2-4 with four RBIs. Erickson went 2-4 with three RBIs and Blake Sonnenberg earned three walks in the game.
Lyman started the game on the mound for the Hornets and went four innings and gave up three hits, four runs of which two were earned and struck out seven batters. Adam Vigen picked up the win on the hill after going three innings and giving up three hits and just one earned run.
The second game was suspended due to lightening in the top of the fifth inning with the Panthers leading 2-1 and will be finished at a later time.
This week the Hornets hosted Bertha-Hewitt on Monday night, before traveling to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Tuesday night for a pair of non-conference games.
On Thursday the Hornets will return to Heart O’ Lakes Conference action for a doubleheader against Barnesville to wrap up a busy slate of games.
