After inclement weather forced the Frazee Hornets indoors for much of March and April, the softball team got their first bit of action outdoors as part of a pair of Heart O’ Lakes Conference doubleheaders.

On Monday, the Hornets dropped a pair of games to Park Rapids Area by scores of 12-7 and 7-4, before dropping a pair of games to Staples-Motley by scores of 9-8 and 9-7 on Thursday.
This week the Hornets will travel to Barnesville for a doubleheader on Thursday in their lone action of the week.
Monday
In just their second day outside of the friendly confines of the high school gyms, the Frazee Hornets dropped a pair of games to Park Rapids Area on Monday night.
In the opening game of the day, the Panthers and Hornets combined for 13 runs in the opening two innings in a wild start to their doubleheader. Unfortunately, the Hornets came out on the short end of a 12-7 loss to the Panthers.

All of the runs for the Hornets came in the bottom of the second inning as they scored seven runs on four hits and a pair of Park Rapids errors. All of their damage came with two outs and was highlighted by an RBI single from McKenna Wacker, a bases loaded walk by Ellie Trieglaff and a two-run single by Katie Courneya.
The Hornets were led offensively by Wacker who got a pair of hits and RBIs in the loss.
In the nightcap, the Hornets once again had a big inning to keep them in the game, but ultimately fell by a score of 7-4.
Frazee took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning when Mya Moore led off the inning with a single and would later score on a two-run single by Alydia Mitchell to give Frazee a 2-1 lead. Ellie Trieglaff followed with an RBI single of her own, before Katie Courneya made the score 4-1 with an RBI double. While the Hornets didn’t get another run across the plate for the rest of the game, they had their chances with a runner in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Park Rapids answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 4-4, before scoring three more runs in the sixth inning to come away with a 7-4 win.

Frazee lost a pair of tough games to Staples-Motley on Thursday night to fall to 0-4 on the season.
In the opening game of the night, Staples-Motley scored a pair of runs in the second, third, sixth and seventh innings, as well as a lone run in the fifth inning to come away with a 9-8 win over the Hornets.
While the Hornets dropped the game they had a chance late in the contest thanks to a three-run fifth inning and a dramatic seventh inning comeback attempt to bring three runs across the plate and the tying run to third base.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, McKenna Wacker reached base on a one out single, before Alydia Mitchell was hit by a pitch. Both runners would score when Ellie Trieglaff connected with a two-run double to make the score 9-7 in favor of the Cardinals. Trieglaff would score on a two out Mya Moore single and Moore would reach third base thanks to a pair of passed balls. Kaija Aschnewitz was walked, leaving runners on first and second base with two outs.
Unfortunately, both runners were stranded on base as the wild inning came to an end and left the Hornets on the wrong side of a 9-8 game.
Wacker led the team with a pair of hits, while Trieglaff took the loss in the circle after going seven innings and giving up nine runs of which seven were earned, 15 hits and struck out three batters.
In the second game of the night, the Hornets once again found quite a bit of success offensively as they pumped out 11 hits, but came out on the short end of a 9-7 score to the Cardinals.
The Hornets scored a pair of runs in the second and fifth innings, as well as two runs in the sixth inning thanks to a two-run single by Kaija Aschnewitz.
Trailing 9-6 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Frazee had a chance to tie the game after Addison Aschnewitz was hit to lead off the inning. Following a pair of strike outs, the Hornets went on a bit of a rally as Ellie Trieglaff was walked and Katie Courneya connected with an RBI single to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs. Unfortunately, Staples-Motley forced a fly out to right field to end the game with the score at 9-7 in favor of the Cardinals.
Kaija Aschnewitz and Calleigh Pausch led the way offensively with two hits apiece, while Pausch took the loss in the circle after going 3 1/3 innings and giving up three hits, four runs of which two were earned, four walks and five strike outs. Trieglaff pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief and gave up seven hits, five runs of which four were earned.
