Longtime Frazee High School fastpitch coach Dave Ferguson threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Thursday’s game against Barnesville. Ferguson coached the Hornets for 10 years and helped to start the program 35 years ago. The Hornets are celebrating their 35th season of high school fastpitch. After throwing out the pitch he was greeted on the rubber by current head coach Matt Bauer.

The city of Frazee now has an Adopt-A-Park program. The Frazee City Council gave its blessing of support to Frazee resident Trisha Jorud to lead the new program. During the regular council meeting on Monday, April 19, the council was informed Jorud visited parks in the city often. While visiting them she would take note of equipment that may be damaged and hazardous, as well as maintenance needs.

Darius Simon was in Louisiana helping his father clean up after hurricanes rolled through the southern state. It was March 26 when his phone rang and he learned his house in Frazee had been reduced to ash and rubble. “My 10-year-old son, Reed, called me at 9 a.m.,” he recalled. “Him and his brothers were off that day and going to Duluth. They passed by the cabin that Friday morning and saw it. When he told me the cabin burned down, I thought he was joking because he said there was nothing left. Then he sent me a picture.”

Frazee’s composting piles are getting a lot of use this spring. The composing piles are located 1/4 north on County 29, on the Dewayne Schaefer farm. City employee Keith Myhrer says anyone wishing to take leaves from the pile for gardens, etc., may do so. There is also a large pile of wood chips which residents are welcome to take for tree bedding, etc.

A Frazee woman, Susan Collinge, 51, was found guilty Friday in Becker County District Court on charges of first- and second-degree assault in the shooting of her brother. Collinge was found guilty by a 12-member jury in the June 1990 shooting of Guy Smith, who was seriously wounded but has since recovered.

FFA State Degree recipient Heath Courneya is pictured with his parents Carol Lee and Steve Courneya. Carol Lee Courneya was also named an FFA Honorary Member in recognition of her work with the FFA program over the years. Pictured at right are Tim Kjos, farm editor of the Detroit Lakes newspapers who was the featured speaker at the banquet, Jeremy Mickelson – FFA Star Greenhand freshman, and Bruce Coufal who was presented a plaque for being the Outstanding FFA Alumni member for the year.

A new municipal liquor store manager was hired by the City Council at a special meeting April 19. He is Raymond W. Meyhoff, 44, of Little Falls and a former resident of Frazee. Meyhoff attended Frazee High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He is married to the former LaVanna Feldt of Frazee. They have no children.

Vern Daggett, founder and President of Daggett Truck Line, was chosen to receive the Pioneer Carrier Award by the North Dakota Motor Carriers Association. This award is given annually. The occasion came at the 31st Annual Convention of this trucking group, which was held in Fargo, North Dakota this past weekend.

Kermit Otto, of Fargo, and Dennis Dalziel, of Frazee, have joined the Kyte Real Estate staff as licensed real estate sales representatives, it was announced last week by James E. Kyte, of Frazee. Dalziel is executive vice president of Peoples State Bank and came to Frazee two years ago. Otto, a former resident of Frazee, has lived in Fargo the past two years and will be moving back to Frazee later this summer. He is also operating a tax service office here.
