Frazee drops a pair to Barnesville in HOL action

The Frazee Hornets battled the elements and came out on the short end of a pair of games to Barnesville on Thursday night by scores of 7-5 and 12-2.

In the opening game of the day, Frazee collected nine hits and scored five runs, but a six-run bottom of the fifth inning for Barnesville proved to be the difference in a 7-5 loss to the Trojans.
The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, which was highlighted by an Addy Aschnewitz RBI single, before jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning when McKenna Wacker connected with a two out RBI single to bring Ella Ullrich across the plate.
The Trojans answered with six runs on three hits in the fifth inning, before Frazee made a game of it thanks to a pair of runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 7-5.
Wacker connected with an RBI single in the inning and the Hornets brought the tying run to the plate when Maya Moore reached on an error to lead off the inning, but was stranded on third base.
Wacker led the way offensively with three hits and two RBIs, while Ellie Trieglaff took the loss in the circle by going six innings and giving up seven runs of which five were earned, nine hits, two walks and struck out two batters.
In the second game of the day, Barnesville was able to score three runs in the first inning, eight runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the fifth inning to come away with a 12-2 win.
The Hornets had a solid first inning as eight batters came up to the plate with Ellie Trieglaff connecting with a two-run single to bring Addy Aschnewitz and McKenna Wacker across the plate. Frazee had the bases loaded with just one out, but were unable to get another run across the plate.
Calleigh Pausch took the loss in the circle as she gave up 12 runs of which seven were earned, 12 hits, two walks and struck out two batters.
Aschnewitz, Wacker, Trieglaff and Katie Courneya led the way offensively for the Hornets with one hit apiece.
The pair of losses leaves the Hornets with a record of 0-6 overall, as well as 0-6 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
This week Frazee were scheduled to take on Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Monday, before traveling to Pelican Rapids on Thursday and hosting Brandon-Evansville in a doubleheader on Friday night.
