The Frazee Hornets improved to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference with a pair of wins against Pelican Rapids and Brandon-Evansville last week.

On Thursday night the Hornets secured a 9-8 win over Pelican Rapids in extra innings, before splitting a doubleheader with the Chargers on Friday by scores of 17-7 and 10-9.
The Hornets hosted New York Mills on Monday in non-conference action, before hosting the Hawley Nuggets on Tuesday night. On Thursday the Hornets will travel to Perham for a doubleheader, before hosting a home tournament on Saturday.
Thursday
A Calleigh Pausch RBI single in the top of the eighth inning gave the Frazee Hornets their first win of the season on Thursday night. After Katie Courneya led off the top of the eighth inning with a double, Pausch followed with an RBI single to put the Hornets in front by a score of 9-8. Despite a pair of Pelican Rapids runners reaching base in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs, Pausch was able to pick up the strike out and give the Hornets the win.
Frazee’s big inning in the game came in the fifth inning when Kaija Aschnewitz brought one run across the plate with a sacrifice ground out and Aubrey Ulschmid hit an RBI single.
Courneya and Addy Aschnewitz led the way offensively with three hits apiece, while McKenna Wacker, Ellie Trieglaff and Pausch each finished with two hits.
Pausch collected the win in the circle by going all eight innings, giving up 11 hits, eight runs of which five were earned, six walks and struck out eight batters.

Friday
Frazee split a doubleheader with Brandon-Evansville on Friday night by securing a 17-7 win and falling 10-9 to the Chargers.
In the opening game of the day, Frazee led 8-7 in a wild first inning after Ellie Trieglaff hit an RBI single, Katie Courneya was walked with the bases loaded, Aubrey Ulschmid hit a bases clearing single, Ella Ullrich hit a two-run double and McKenna Wacker hit an RBI single to make the score 8-7 in favor of the Hornets.
Frazee added three more runs in the second inning thanks to an RBI single by Ulschmid and a pair of runs batted in by Addy Aschnewitz to make the score 11-7.
The Hornets added two more runs in the third, fourth and ended the game in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Ellie Trieglaff to make the score 17-7.
The Hornets were led offensively by Trieglaff who picked up four hits and four RBIs, while Ulschmid finished with two hits and four RBIs, Wacker and Ella Ullrich each collected two hits in the win.
Trieglaff picked up the win in the circle by going six innings, giving up seven runs of which three were earned, seven hits and five strike outs.
In the second game of the night, the Hornets fell to the Chargers by a score of 10-9 in nine innings.
McKenna Wacker opened the scoring for the Hornets in the top of the first inning with an RBI single, but the real damage came in the fifth and sixth innings when they combined to score eight runs, which was highlighted by a three-run bases clearing triple by Katie Courneya in the sixth inning. The Hornets led 9-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Chargers were able to get a pair of runs across the plate and won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly to second base to bring the winning run across the plate.
The Hornets were led offensively by Courneya who went 3-5 with four RBIs and a triple. Addy Aschnewitz went 3-5 with three runs scored, Wacker and Kaija Aschnewitz each finished with two hits in the loss.
Harlee Stock took the loss in relief as she went 5 2/3 innings and gave up seven hits, five earned runs, three walks and a pair of strike outs.
