The Frazee Hornets improved to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference with a pair of wins and a pair of losses.

On Tuesday the Hornets defeated Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal 8-1, before falling to Parkers Prairie on Thursday by a score of 12-2. On Friday the Hornets split a doubleheader with Pelican Rapids by picking up a 13-3 win, before falling 9-7 in the night cap.

This week the Hornets hosted New York Mills on Monday, before traveling to Hawley on Tuesday in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference match up. On Thursday Frazee will host Perham, before traveling to Henning on Friday to take on the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs.

Karson Krause, Dawson Lyman and Noah Mekalson combined to throw a no-hitter through six innings, before Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal collected a pair of hits in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Blake Sonnenberg, who went on to strike out three batters to secure an 8-1 win on Tuesday night. 

  The four Hornet pitchers gave up just one unearned run, off an error in the bottom of the first inning, while striking out 10 batters and giving up just two hits in the win. 

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third inning, Frazee collected four runs thanks to a Krause RBI triple, two runs off of a pair of Titans errors and a fielder’s choice by Ben Reierson. 

The Hornets added another run in the fourth inning on a Krause RBI double and broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with three more runs on a passed ball, fielder’s choice by Krause and a dropped third strike that allowed Mason Mickelson to cross the plate. 

The Hornets picked up nine hits in the win and were led offensively by Krause who went 2-3 with three RBIs.

Thursday

Parkers Prairie scored runs in bunches on Thursday night as the Panthers scored five runs in the second inning, three in the third inning and four runs in the fifth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule by a score of 12-2. 

The lone runs for the Hornets came in the top of the fourth inning when Mason Mickelson connected on a two out bases loaded single that brought a pair of runs across the plate. 

Adam Vigen took the loss on the mound for the Hornets as he went 2 1/3 innings and gave up four hits, seven runs of which two were earned, walked eight and struck out two. Dawson Lyman pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief and gave up seven hits, five earned runs, while walking one and striking out another.

Friday

The Hornets returned to Heart O’ Lakes Conference action on Friday night and fell to the Pelican Rapids Vikings by a score of 9-7. The Hornets got on the board in the top of the first inning when Karson Krause doubled, scoring two runs and an error scored one run to put the Hornets up 3-0.

The Vikings flipped the script in the bottom of the second inning when they scored seven runs on five hits to take a 7-3 lead, thanks in part, to an error that allowed a pair of runs to score.

Frazee tied the game in the top of the third inning thanks to a double by Krause, a double by Erickson and a fielder’s choice by John George that tied the game up at 7-7.

The Vikings would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to come away with a 9-7 win. 

The Hornets were led offensively by Krause who went 2-4 with three RBIs and a pair of doubles. Mason Mickelson and Blake Sonnenberg also collected a pair of hits in the loss. 

Ben Reierson took the loss on the mound as he went four innings and gave up just three hits, two runs of which one was earned, while striking out seven batters. Noah Mekalson started the game and went two innings and gave up six hits, seven runs of which just one was earned, walked two batters and also struck out two batters.
