The Frazee Hornets came out on the short end of five games last week to drop their record to 2-12 overall.

On Monday the Hornets fell to New York Mills by a score of 15-3, before falling to Perham by scores of 19-8 and 13-11 on Thursday. On Saturday the Hornets fell to Pequot Lakes and Sebeka by scores of 13-7 and 7-4 at Frazee’s home tournament.

Even though the Hornets were unable to come away with a win last week, head coach Tavia Bachmann said the team played well in most of their games. She said they just need to try to string some hits together a bit more in the game. She said the Hornets have a tough final week of the regular season on tap, which should prepare the team for the playoffs.

Katie Courneya once again had a solid week at the plate for the Hornets.

This week the Hornets will wrap up their regular season with a doubleheader against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Tuesday, a doubleheader at Breckenridge on Thursday and a doubleheader against Hawley at home on Friday.

Monday

On a cold and blustery day, the Frazee Hornets fell to the New York Mills Eagles last Monday afternoon by a score of 15-3. NY Mills scored three runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings, as well as six runs in the seventh inning to come away with the win.

Ellie Trieglaff helped her own cause with a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, while McKenna Wacker also crossed the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Wacker led the way offensively with a pair of hits, while Trieglaff took the loss in the circle by going all seven innings and giving up 16 hits, 15 runs of which seven were earned, two walks and struck out two batters.

Thursday

Frazee dropped a doubleheader to Perham on Thursday afternoon by scores of 13-11 and 18-0.

In a high scoring opening game of the day, Frazee took an 10-6 lead thanks to a big seven run top of the fifth inning that included a two-run home run off the bat of Ellie Trieglaff, as well as RBI singles off the bats of Kaija Aschnewitz and Ella Ullrich and a sacrifice fielder’s choice off the bat of Katie Courneya that all brought runs across the plate.

Unfortunately, Perham scored two runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth inning to come away with the win.

Aschnewitz led the way offensively as she went 4-4 with three runs scored, while McKenna Wacker collected a pair of hits in the loss.

Calleigh Pausch started the game for the Hornets and went one inning and gave up three hits, four earned runs and walked three batters, before Trieglaff came into the game in relief and gave up 10 hits, nine runs of which eight were earned, three walks and two strikeouts over five innings of action.

In the second game of the day, Perham scored six runs in the first inning, eight in the second and four runs in the fourth inning to come away with an 18-0 win.
The Hornets committed seven errors on defense and picked up just one hit in the game, a single by McKenna Wacker in the third inning.

Maggie Blaine took the loss in the circle as she went 1/3 of an inning and gave up three unearned runs, no hits and four walks. Harlee Stock pitched one inning and gave up seven runs of which four were earned, two hits, two walks and struck out one batter, before Ellie Trieglaff pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs of which four were earned, seven hits and walked two batters.

Saturday

Frazee fell to 2-12 overall after dropping a pair of games in a home tournament on Saturday.

In their opening game of the day, Frazee had at least one runner on base in each inning, but were unable to string enough hits together as they fell to Pequot Lakes by a score of 13-7.

Frazee pumped out nine hits in the loss, including a pair of hits and three runs scored by Addy Aschnewitz and two hits off the bat of Katie Courneya. McKenna Wacker and Calleigh Pausch each finished with a pair of RBIs in the game as well.

Ellie Trieglaff took the loss in the circle as she went four innings and gave up eight hits, nine runs of which five were earned, one walk and one strikeout.

In their second game of the day, Frazee fell to one of the top teams in Section 5A by a score of 7-4.

Ellie Trieglaff had a solid game in the circle for the Hornets as she gave up 11 hits, but didn’t walk a batter and gave up just one earned run.

Unfortunately, the Hornets surrendered three untimely errors that led to six unearned runs crossing the plate.

Frazee led by a score of 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Addy Aschnewitz scored on a wild pitch and Alydia Mitchell brought another run across the plate when she reached on an error. However, the Trojans scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to overtake the Hornets for good by a score of 7-4.

Wacker and Aubrey Ulschmid led the way offensively for the Hornets with two hits apiece, while Mitchell picked up a pair of RBIs in the loss.
