Schaefer breaks school pole vault record

For just the third time in school history the Frazee girls track team will advance to the state true team championship after the Hornets captured first place at the Section 6A meet on Thursday. The meet was held in Frazee as the Hornets took advantage of their home track by accumulating 882 points to defeat Osakis who came in second place with 824 points. Pelican Rapids was third with 765, Parkers Prairie was fourth with 686 and Otter Tail Central took fifth place in the 16-team field with 679 points.

The state true team meet will be held on Saturday in Eden Prairie. 

The Frazee boys finished in fifth place with 673 points, behind just United Clay Becker with 915 points, Osakis with 883.5 points, Pelican Rapids with 720 points and Otter Tail Central with 694 points. 

In addition to a fifth place finish as a team, Tyden Schaefer broke his own school record in the pole vault for the third time this season by clearing 15’6”, which is the top mark in all of Class A this year. 

Individually, the girls team was led by the 4×400-meter relay team that finished in first place with a time of 4:17.09, while Brynn Larson collected a pair of top three finishes by taking second place in the high jump with a jump of 4’10” and third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.82.

Aynslee Johannsen had a great day in the hurdles as she finished in second place in both the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.1, as well as the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.74. Madilyn Perrine also fared well in the 100-meter hurdles as she took third place with a time of 18.06.

Jayden Sonnenberg collected a pair of third place finishes as she took third place in the long jump with a jump of 15’8”, as well as the triple jump with a jump of 31’11 1/2”. 

Leslie Moore also came in third place in the shot put with a throw of 32’10”.

On the boys side, Schaefer captured a pair of top spots in field events. He broke his own school record in the pole vault with a vault of 15’6”, as well as the long jump with a jump of 20’3 1/4”. Schaefer also finished in third place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.21 and fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.7. 

Micheal Chisholm took second place in the discus with a throw of 133’8” and William Stroburg finished in third place in the triple jump with a jump of 38’5 1/2”. 

Ayden Grossman collected a second place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.05 and a fifth place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.77.
