VFW Post 1676, in partnership with Project 412, is inviting artists of all ages to participate in the America250 – Detroit Lakes Community Art Showcase, a community exhibition celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The showcase provides an opportunity for artists to explore and express what America means to them through original artwork. The exhibition is open to artists of all ages and experience levels, with no entry fee required.

“This exhibition is an opportunity for community members to reflect on America’s past, present, and future through the lens of creativity,” said VFW representative, Jason Bristlin. “We hope artists of all ages will share their unique perspectives as we commemorate this historic milestone.”

  A total of $3,500 in awards will be presented, including:

First Place: $1,500

Second Place: $750

Third Place: $500

People’s Choice Award: $750

Selected artwork will be exhibited during Art in the Park (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) on July 26, 2026, in Detroit Lakes City Park. (Accepted artists will be asked to deliver their artwork during the week of July 20 in preparation for the exhibition. Artwork must be picked up following the event on Sunday, July 26, between 3-3:30 pm.)
