The Frazee Hornets traveled to Becker at Pebble Creek Golf Club for the state tournament.

The practice rounds threatened weather and were hot while the grounds crew tried to get the course ready.

The first order of business after the practice round was a State Class A banquet where many of the golfers and teams were honored. Both Adam Vigen and Cayden Wallin earned Senior All State academic awards with grade point averages at 3.75 or higher. Frazee as a team earned the section 6A team award for best GPA.

Another award handed out at the banquet was for the All State team in which Ben Reierson was honored to be a part of. These are the top 20 Class A golfers for the season. The section 6A coach of the year was Jason Reierson from Frazee who announced all the golfers from section 6A that had qualified for the state tournament. It was a nice recognition for all the state entrants.

The first round of state was a hot one. The boys were solid all the way around the course the first day.

Senior Tyler Lindell did not play as well as he would have liked, but was there for his teammates on day one. He ended up shooting 110 the first day and was not satisfied, but was hopeful that his teammates could keep them in the hunt.

Hunter Piekarski with his first state appearance was a little rattled to start, but eased into his role as the five man with a  99 playing alright for his first experience.

Sophomore Brodie Mausbach had many ups and downs the first day and gained some great insight on what it takes to compete on this level.

Seniors Adam Vigen and Cayden Wallin were very solid shooting 81 and 82 respectively to keep the team score down to a minimum.

Ben Reierson was extremely steady on the first nine recording all pars on the front. He then went on a tear and made three birdies in a row, which allowed him to climb into second place behind defending state champ Alex Rhode. He had some crazy bad breaks on holes 15 and 16 which dropped him to the fifth spot after day one. The team score was good enough for fifth place after day one but hopeful going into day two.

The second round had a threatening weather forecast but never materialized, as it was just hot and muggy.  The team was a bit worn out from day one and a long stay in town. Frazee’s team score was six strokes higher than day one which doesn’t seem that much higher, but dropped the Hornets to the seventh spot for the tournament.

Tyler Lindell and Hunter Piekarski were both able to better their score on day two. Lindell by eight and Piekarski by one.

Brodie Mausbach was also able to better his score by three strokes which helped with the teams overall score.

The top three guys just could not repeat the magic from the day before and all recorded a bit high scores. Seniors Adam Vigen and Cayden Wallin both ended the day with 84’s, not what they had hoped for to end their careers, but still solid performances. What a great group of seniors we had. They all lead in a different way and the younger guys and myself have made life long friends. They will be difficult to replace.

Sophomore Ben Reierson was not as comfortable with his clubs on the second day. He was not as consistent as the first, but pushed himself into 11th place for the tournament.

What a great year for the Frazee Boys team.  With a great group of seniors and a real solid group of sophomores the future looks bright for the Hornets.

Head coach Jason Reierson said a huge thanks to the people who came out to send the team off to state. The boys will never forget it. Daggett Truck Line, Frazee Fire Department and Ethan Wothe with the Becker County Sheriff’s department along with all the fans of the team that lined the way.  United Community Bank supplied the team with water that was crucial both days for hydration. The booster club for the decoration and full support also. Reierson said it was a fantastic season.
