‘Reading is Timeless’ summer reading activities at DL library

0The Detroit Lakes Public Library is inviting young readers to participate in Lake Agassiz Regional Library’s “Reading is Timeless” Summer Reading Program, which includes a jam-packed lineup of free events and activities for youth.
The following activities will be offered at the Detroit Lakes Public Library in July:
Legend of Old
Three Legs
Thursday, July 9 from 2-3 p.m. at the Becker County Museum
Join us at the Becker County Museum for an engaging presentation that brings to life the folklore, history, and intrigue surrounding this elusive three-legged creature said to roam Becker County.
Stories in The Soil
Thursday, July 16 from 2- 3 p.m.
Join an outreach team from UMN Crookston’s Center for Rural Education in Science and Technology (CREST) and discover how the ground beneath your feet holds a timeline of the past.
Science of Sleuthing
Thursday, July 23 from 2-3 p.m.
Calling all junior gumshoes and master sleuths; a “timeless” mystery has landed at the library, and help is needed to crack the case! Offered in partnership with the Northern Lights
Council, Scouting
America Sink or Float: The Titanic
Thursday, July 30 from 2-3 p.m.
Learn about the infamous sinking of the Titanic and become an engineer to make a boat out of recycled materials to see if it will sink or float.
Interactive Storytelling
at the Becker
County Fair
Friday, July 31 from 2-3 p.m.
Join children’s librarian Eliza Gores at the Becker County Fair for a fun interactive story telling experience. Become part of the story or sit back and enjoy the silliness!
These programs are offered free-of-charge. The Detroit Lakes Public Library is located at 1000 Washington Ave.
The Summer Reading Program is offered to youth and teens at libraries in communities in Becker, Clay, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Norman, Polk, and Wilkin counties. Beginning June 1, participants can read to win prizes as well as attend educational and entertaining programs at their local library or library LINK Site. Those interested in participating are encouraged to stop by their local library or LINK Site to pick up a reading log July 31.
