The Vergas Loons had their season come to an end on Saturday night as they fell to Kensington by a score of 6-4 in the Region 11C tournament.
Kensington jumped out to an early 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning when they connected with a two-run single, a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice. They added two more runs in the third inning on an RBI double and an RBI single to make the score 6-0.
The Loons battled back and scored a run in the top of the sixth inning when Blake Sonnenberg reached base on a dropped third strike with two outs, and eventually scored on the next batter on an error by the catcher to make the score 6-1.
Vergas got within striking distance in the seventh inning when Gage Post scored on a fielder’s choice and Drew Mekalson connected with an RBI double to make the score 6-3.
The Loons brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning after Drew Mekalson walked with one out and Noah Mekalson followed with a single. Drew Mekalson would later score on a passed ball to make the score 6-4 in favor of Kensington, but the Loons could get no closer as they fell to Kensington by the same 6-4 score.
The Loons were led offensively by Drew and Noah Mekalson with two hits apiece with Gage Post picking up the other hit for Vergas.
With the loss the Loons season came to a close with a record of 5-17 overall.
