Radios installed in new Wolf Lake fire truck

Radios have been installed in Wolf Lake’s new $442,485, fully paid for, fire truck and it is ready for use.
It is ready for use, but the firefighters with the Wolf Lake Fire Department (WLFD) are not yet ready to fully start using it, reported Wolf Lake Assistant Fire Chief Neil Aho during the Tuesday, Sept. 8, regular monthly meeting of the Wolf Lake City Council. The firefighters are undergoing about another month of training first, Aho told the council.
The cost of installing the radios plus the hoses and nozzle were donated by the Wolf Lake Firefighters Relief Association. Officials have also been attempting to sell the department’s old truck. A closed bidding process that was expected to culminate in the awarding of the low bidder during the council meeting yielded no bids. So, the department is checking with CarCo Truck Sales in Rice to see if they would be interested in buying it. The plan, if CarCo is not interested, is for the city to list it for sale on Marketplace for $10,000.
Assistant Fire Chief Aho reported that the department responded to one call for service within the past month. Last month Fire Chief Brock Anderson reported that the department had responded to 39 calls for service up to that point, with the latest one bringing the year-to-date total to 40 as of the council meeting.
The council adopted a resolution accepting a $300 donation from Leroy and Myrna Koskela for the fire department’s major equipment fund.

• Reviewed liquor store monthly comparisons and “Schedule 4,” plus noted that the August pull tab rent amount was $1,631.
• Reviewed the Wolf Lake Community Hall rental schedule/calendars for September and October.
• Agreed to take the flags down in town after Veterans Day and reinstall Christmas wreaths in late November.
• Was informed that Councilor Cody Lake recently spent three hours cutting brush and weed whipping at the sewer ponds.
• Regular monthly meetings of the Wolf Lake City Council are usually held at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.
