The Frazee Hornets had their best offensive game of the season on Wednesday night as the posted 34 points on the road at Lake Park-Audubon. Unfortunately, the Raiders scored 48 points to hand the Hornets a tough 48-34 loss that dropped Frazee to 2-5 on the season.

The Hornets got off to a strong start as they returned a kick off for a touchdown, only to have Lake Park-Audubon return the favor a short time later.

“We started out really strong in the game as we returned a kick off for a touchdown and then they went and ran one back (on us),” said head coach Russ Hackel.

Both teams continued to trade scores in the first half as the Hornets trailed by just two points in the second quarter and were driving down the field late in the half, before a personal foul resulted in a fourth and two attempt to become a fourth and 17 and ended a good opportunity to potentially go into the halftime break with the lead.

Hackel said the Hornets will need to limit their penalties if they want to find success this week.

The second half continued to be back and forth, before the Raiders recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown, while adding another quick score to put some distance between them and the Hornets.

Hackel said he was pleased with how the Hornets were able to move the ball in the game, especially on the ground.

“Overall I was happy to see how we were able to run the ball,” he said. “It was the most points we scored all year and it is something to hang our hat on as we continue to improve.”

The Hornets will look to end their regular season on a high note on Wednesday as they travel to Battle Lake to take on the 2-5 Otter Tail Central Bulldogs. The Hornets come into the game with an identical 2-5 record after falling to Lake Park-Audubon by a score of 48-34 on Wednesday night. The Hornets come into the game averaging 19.3 points per game on offense, while giving up 26.6 points per game on defense.

The Bulldogs currently average 12.3 points per game on offense, while giving up 24.3 points on the defensive end of the field.

The Section 8AA tournament will kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 27 with the Hornets potentially starting the playoffs on the road. The section semi-finals are set for Saturday, Oct. 31 at the high seed with the section finals set for Friday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. at the FargoDome.
