Free farm-fresh produce is available every Monday in the parking lot of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vergas. There is no charge, no paperwork, or income guidelines to pick a bag or box of produce. The opportunity is open to everyone and completely free. The Vergas produce distribution starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at noon. People should bring their own bags and boxes.

Demolition of the former Gary’s Furniture building began Wednesday, Aug. 2. By the late afternoon a portion I the back had been reduced to rubble. From the Main Avenue view, however, there was no clue deconstruction was happening until Monday, Aug. 7. The building was made up of four sections and the demolition company started by removing the one closest to the post office. The plan is to remove the entire former furniture store building as well as the two properties purchased by the Frazee Economic Development Authority for $60,000 next to the east side of the building.

The rail car in the former furniture building was likely built in the 1880s by the Pullman Company as an observation car. It was brought to Frazee in 1993 and was eventually turned into a diner. Gary Ware bought it in 1979, shortened about 20 feet and moved it into his Main Avenue furniture store.

Work on the Frazee goose pond beautification project will begin Tuesday night. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the perennial gardens at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday and/or 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14. The green light for this Frazee Community Pride Group project was officially received from the Frazee City Council Monday night. Those volunteering should dress for work, bring gloves and bring wheelbarrows, clippers, shovels and rakes, if possible.

The community can help a new metal sculpture grow at Frazee goose pond on Main Avenue. Florida artist Paul Eppling, 47, an area summer resident of over 20 years, has offered to build a community sculpture this month. Work should begin next Wednesday, but that depends on the people of the community. Needed are steel or iron garden tools, hand tools, farm implements, old planters, cultivators, pickers and assorted farmer junk pile stuff. Also accepted will be metal or iron auto parts such as suspension or bumpers.
