A fire at Toad Lake Taxidermy the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 24 destroyed the showroom and workspace of Mark Arnold. “But, no one got hurt,” the 64-year-old man said. “I don’t think I could get through this without my wife Heidi and the grace of God. Heidi was the only one home at the time of the fire as Arnold was ice fishing in North Dakota. Heidi explained their bedroom faces the lake and normally she would’ve slept in on her day off, but she woke up, walked into the kitchen and pushed the start button on the coffee pot. “That’s when I saw the flames,” she said. “They were huge; I could feel the heat from them all the way in the kitchen.” She called 911, and then backed her husband’s truck out of the driveway.
