Frazee to wrap up regular season with a dual in DL

In their final home match of the season, the Frazee Hornets swept a quadrangular against Minnewaska Area, Park Rapids Area and Fosston/Bagley on Thursday night. The three wins increased the Hornets’ win streak to 11 straight matches in duals as they are hitting their stride down the stretch. 

In their match against Minnewaska, the Hornets took advantage of four open weights for the Lakers as the Hornets picked up a 53-27 win. The Hornets made the most of the matches that were wrestled as Cade Nagel secured a pin over Mason Schiffler at the 3:55 mark of their 132 lbs. match to give Frazee an 18-9 lead.

Following a forfeit for both Frazee and Minnewaska, Tyler Moe secured a tech fall at 152 lbs. and Jake Nagel followed with a quick pin at 160 lbs. to give Frazee a 35-15 lead. Preston Mayfield followed with a pin of his own over Miles Reichmann at 170 lbs. to make the score 41-15 in favor of Frazee.

Derek Zitzow and Weston Mickelson closed out the match with a pin by Zitzow and a forfeit by Mickelson to make the score 53-27. 

In a match up against a pair of Section 8A foes, Frazee secured a 67-24 win over Fosston-Bagley. Several additional matches were wrestled at 106 lbs. between the two teams as Gabe Schermerhorn secured the first win of the night for the Hornets with a pin at the 1:14 mark of the first period at 106 lbs. Raymond Sanchez also secured a pin at the 2:04 mark of his 106 lbs. match, before Josiah Drewes secured a pin over Jack Lacroix at the 55 second mark of his 106 lbs. match.

At 126 lbs., Brady Borah secured a major decision over Kadin Harwood by a score of 9-0 to give Frazee a 28-15 lead. 

Fosston-Bagley won the next two matches to make the score 28-24, before Bailey Peichel won by forfeit and Tyler Moe, Jake Nagel and Preston Mayfield won by a pin in consecutive matches. 

Max Rue secured an 8-1 decision over Luke Sannes, Daniel Graham won by a 9-2 decision at 195 lbs., Derek Zitzow won by a fall at 220 lbs. and Weston Mickelson made it eight straight wins for the Hornets when he won a 2-1 decision over Alex Hagen to close out the match.

Frazee took advantage of seven Park Rapids Area forfeits, including six straight forfeits from 152-220 lbs. as they defeated the Panthers by a score of 66-27.

The two teams once again wrestled a number of additional 106 lbs. matches with Tanner Moe and Josiah Drewes picking up pins for the Hornets at 106 lbs., while Josiah Drewes won by a 4-1 decision.

At 113 lbs., Liam Hamm secured a close 5-4 decision, before Cade Nagel defeated Jarrett Galzki at 132 lbs. by a pin at the 3:07 mark of his match. 

Frazee is now 20-5 on the season as they look to wrap up their regular season on Thursday night against Detroit Lakes. The Section 8A meet will be held next week.

The Hornets are currently in first place in the section with Crookston in second place with a record of 13-5 and Badger/Greenbush-Middle River in third place with a record of 4-3. The defending section champions, United North Central is 11-10 overall. 

Frazee is ranked 10th in the state as a team, while Cash Osterman is ranked 10th at 106 lbs., Tyler Moe is ranked 10th at 152 lbs., Jake Nagel is ranked third at 160 lbs. and Preston Mayfield is ranked 10th at 170 lbs.
