Margaret “Peggy” Yvonne Maki died peacefully on May 15, 2023.

Peggy was born on October 25, 1937, in Spruce Grove Township, Minnesota, to Berger and Esther (Faaberg) Mickelson. The youngest of 11 children and the last of them to survive, Peggy enjoyed growing up in a large and loving family. Peggy graduated from Frazee High School in 1955, and went on to school in Minneapolis.  Peggy was raised in the Lutheran faith.  She was confirmed and married at Bethany Lutheran Church, and she maintained her faith and devotion throughout her life.  Her time with her bible study group meant a lot to her.

On June 15, 1957, Peggy married her beloved husband of 59 years, Wayne Maki. Peggy and Wayne raised three sons.  Their sons remember fondly all the camping trips and fun times they had together growing up.  Peggy and Wayne initially lived and Wayne taught school in Frazee.  In 1970, they moved the family to Moorhead, where Wayne continued teaching until 1986.  Peggy and Wayne spent two years in Madrid, Spain, to culminate his teaching career, retiring in 1988. They were able to travel through much of Europe during that time. Peggy’s jobs included working at Eventide Senior Living in Moorhead and later providing home health care in the Frazee area.

In 1982, they purchased property on Toad Lake and together built their retirement home. Wayne and Peggy enjoyed hosting many a gathering on the “South Shore” with friends and family.  Peggy was a great cook who clipped many recipes from the Frazee Forum.  Peggy was an avid reader and, much like her mother Esther, loved quiet time at home, where she lovingly took care of her lawn and garden. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Peggy was an amazing caregiver to Wayne in his final years.

Survivors include 3 sons: Todd (Karen) of Minnetrista, MN, Jay (Julie) of Lakeville, MN, and Craig (Jane) of Laguna Niguel, CA; 3 grandchildren: Kayla (Reid) Peterson, Eric (Zainab) Maki and Megan Maki; 4 great grandchildren: Madyn, Nolan and Reagan Peterson and Zahara Maki, and many well-loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband (Wayne), parents; brothers Byrdell, Melford, Russell, Lowell, Willard, Marvin, Lloyd, and Lawrence (in infancy) Mickelson and sisters Elaine (Lainy) Anderson and Mavis Torvinen.
