Gavia Immer was not an immigrant to the Vergas area. She is, in fact, the scientific name given to a bird whose song is as familiar as thew westerly wind here in northern Minnesota. Long before fishing regulations and shoreline ordinances, the common loon was a part of the lakeside landscapes in the area. By all accounts, the Vergas Loon was destined to be a success. After becoming incorporated as a town back in 1903, almost 60 years had come and gone before the idea was born. In 1962, as Vergas Postmaster Ewald Krueger led the community in developing its park, discussions began about choosing an icon or statue that could best represent the area to visitors and locals alike.

Frazee-Vergas School District is gearing up to celebrate homecoming week Sept. 17-21. The theme this year is western, and kickin’ off the fun is a darn-tootin’ good Monday. Sept. 17 students and staff are encouraged to dress up for the movie madness day. Those dressed like the starts may add to the ambiance of coronation at 2:50 p.m. in the main high school gym.

It would appear to be safe to say that S & T Auto Repair, 201 E. Main, is at this point in time Frazee’s newest business. It opened Tuesday. The S stands for Scott Geiselhart. The T stands for Todd Rittenour. They’re the owners and the mechanics. Both are graduates of Northwest Technical College, Detroit Lakes, both have take several extra training courses, both are ASE (Automobile Service Excellence) certified, and both have worked for Nereson Chevrolet Oldsmobile Cadillac Jeep Inc., Detroit Lakes.

Marlene Malstrom is a businesswoman who’s intrigued by possibilities. In her industry of real estate, she said, “There’s always something so unique about each property.” She’s intrigued, too, by the potential of the Vergas area real estate market. “The potential is so great within our area here.” The whole lakes region, she added, is an “up-and-growing” area. Those possibilities for property and market potential are what drew Marlene to open an office in Vergas.

We’ve finally found something that you and your entire family can do together, working together for a good cause. It’s a Bike-Hike being planned now for Sept. 23 with all proceeds going to the ARC. The biking and hiking fun will both begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Lake Park. The bikes will be going to Vergas, Luce and back to the Eagle Lake Park. There will be maps for all bikers to avoid getting lost. The hikers will hike around Eagle Lake, approximately 5 miles; just a little skip and a jump!
