Lyle Krieg received a Quilt of Valor last year at an event that honored veterans in Wolf Lake. The Rose Lake resident decided that his past shipmates deserved that same feeling of recognition, pride and appreciation. The opportunity to present them with the unique quilts came about recently. After being out of the service for 28 years, the Navy veteran connected with past crew members, who were also plank owners of the U.S.S. Mobile LKA-115.

Residents of the Frazee-Vergas School District will be asked to approve a building bond in the November’s general election. During a public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18, Superintendent Terry Karger reviewed the three options that will be presented on the ballot. All three projects cost about $29.03 million and would be paid over the course of 20-years. Voters can vote for one, two or all three options on the ballot.

Town Lake beach in Frazee got a makeover this spring, and the end result created drastic changes to the shoreline. The public beach along Lake Street now has plants stretching 4 feet tall in areas that were previously manicured grass or rock.

A giant turkey came to Frazee Saturday to roost at Lions Park. The new “Big Tom” is bigger than the previous model at just over 20 feet tall and is bronze in color. Turkey Committee chairman Kenny Fett could be heard breathing a sigh of relief when the truck puled in at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. After all, the giant Tom was expected to arrive in time for Frazee Turkey Days on July 23, but was almost two months delayed perhaps Ian an effort to gain a little more weight and height to take over the responsibility of being “The World’s Largest Turkey.”

Frazee—famous for dog sled races? The community will have that reputation if things turn out according to Eddie and Amy Streeper’s plans. They are organizing a professional sprint dog race in Frazee on Jan. 2, and if it goes the way they hope, it will grow into a major annual race. “We want to show the merchants and the citizens we can bring money into the economy in the winter by bringing 50 dog trucks into town—over 30 for sure,” said Eddie.

The Frazee Mrs. Jaycees are offering six free consecutive copies of the American Baby Magazine for any expectant mother in the community. The magazine includes clothing ideas and newest baby tips and techniques and products. Mrs. Ware is the District Mrs. Jaycee chairman for family health.

Melvin Renollet, rural Frazee, is hospitalized at Memorial Hospital in Perham as the result of a farm accident last Wednesday morning in which he lost his left arm. Renollet was sharpening the blades on a field chopper when he apparently got entangled in the machine. He farms in Gorman township in Otter Tail County.

Four Frazee area hunters were among the fortunate hunters to get their moose this season. They are Harvey Sonnenberg, Myron Moe, Rick Sonnenberg and Ray Sonnnenberg. They got the animal Saturday, Sept. 22 near Middle River, Minn. It weighed 720 pounds field dressed.
