Ever since Hannah was a child she has dreamed of greener pastures, castles and hearing live Celtic music in Ireland. Eight months after Dawn and Adam June learned their 13-year-old daughter Hannah had an inoperable brain tumor; the Perham chapter of Dreams for Kids teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make the eight grader’s wish come true. Hannah and her parents left Thursday, Oct. 18 for six days.
Ken Miosek, who has been the deputy mayor the past several years, will become Frazee’s next mayor to start 2019. Miosek won the race by 27 votes. He had a total 230 votes while the other candidate, Mark Flemmer, had 203 votes. The Frazee Mayor term is for four years.
Frazee resident Adam Walker has been in full-time active service with the Minnesota National Guard for over 17 years. The active duty Supply NCO (non-commissioned officer) started his career in the National Guard after finishing his junior year of high school in Frazee. The 2002 graduate of Frazee-Vergas High School had enjoyed working in his role for what has been almost 18 years now. Recently, Walker was awarded a high honor for his faithful service to his country. After being nominated by his commanding officer of Alpha Company 2-136, he was recommended and put forward by Post 21 out of Moorhead to represent their region of Minnesota for the award.

Last week, in the time it takes to flick a light switch, life became a lot more complex for many area residents. Fortunately, the situation was a temporary one, and the homes in the area which were without power have now had electricity restored. In the midst of the outage, though, it didn’t seem so temporary. Routines changed drastically, as people had to seek new sources of the basic essentials. Heat, light, water, and alternate energy sources were all in high demand after the outage struck about 12:45 p.m. last Tuesday. Area schools had been cancelled that morning due to a heavy, wet snowfall. Early that afternoon, snow laden Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC) transmission lines and substations went down. LREC members in the Frazee, Vergas, Wolf Lake and Evergreen areas felt the situation defined itself: powerlessness. There was no electricity, and there was not much anyone could do about it. Some felt the effects of the outage until the end of the week.
Frazee telephone subscribers have decided they would rather pay extra to make calls to Detroit Lakes numbers and not raise monthly phone bills. A total of 628 customers voted against Extended Area Service (EAS) with Detroit Lakes, while 500 subscribers voted for it. In terms of percentages, the vote by mail, for which the results were released Tuesday, was 55.7 to 44.3 against EAS.

Sunday evening, Nov. 11 was Charter Night for the newly organized Frazee Lions Club, sponsored by the Vergas Lions. The program was held at Perry’s near Vergas with Kenneth Jacobson of the Frazee Lions and Barney Frey of the Vergas Lions as co-chairmen. Attending were Lions of the Frazee and Vergas Clubs and their wives, Lions from area towns and District M-3 and their spouses. Gilman Guntinson, president of the Vergas Lions introduced the toastmaster, Mr. Vern Siepkas, Past District M-5 Governor. Rev. Martin Langemo, Frazee Lion, gave the invocation. Guest speaker was Mr. Gerry Robbins, also a Past District M-5 Governor.
