Frazee’s initial request to be included in the Governor’s bonding bill was not moved forward. However, Rep. Krista Knudsen and Sen. Paul Utke drafted bills to fund the request, according to City Administrator Stephanie Poegel.
The $1.85 million request is for the paving and infrastructure work of the North River Loop. If approved, the $1.85 million would be appropriated from the bond proceeds fund to the commissioner of transportation for a grant to the city of Frazee to design, engineer, and construct North River Drive and associated water and sewer infrastructure from County
State-Aid Highway 29 to marked Trunk Highway 87 to connect to Wannigan Regional Park.
“This is huge for Frazee,” council member Andrea Froeber said.
Froeber has been an advocate of the project and is organizing communications from interested volunteers from Frazee to contact Rep. Fue Lee, Chair of the House Capital Investments Committee and Sen. Sandra L. Pappas, Chair of the Senate Capital Investment Committee, to show local support for the project.
“To get the loop is going to be huge,” said Froeber.
“The loop is going to affect more than just people who live in town,” Poegel said. “It’s going to be a change for the school district itself with having that road paved.”
Chair Lee can be reached by mailing the House Capital Investments Committee at 485 State Office Building, St. Paul MN 55155, or via email: rep.fue.lee@house.mn.gov or call (651) 296-4262; and reference HF 4036.
Chair Pappas can be reached by mailing the Senate Capital Investment Committee at 2113
Minnesota Senate Bldg. St. Paul MN 55155, email by mail form online, or call (651) 296-1802 and reference SF 4129.
Both Poegel and Froeber pleaded with the public to get involved and show support for the project.
Fire department
The Frazee Fire Department received six sealed bids to purchase a 1989 Ford F-350 utility truck for sale and awarded the sale at the city council meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
The bids ranged from a low of $999 to $7,511.01 and the sale was awarded to the highest bid submitted by Josh Samuelson of Frazee.
Buyers have a week to complete the purchase and relative paperwork.
The department’s new grass truck and utility truck are completed and in service, according to Fire Chief Adam Walker.
East Main Project
Plans for the upcoming East Main road construction project this summer have been approved by the Becker County Highway Department, according to City Engineer Chris Thorson. The final step is to send the plans to the Minnesota Department of Transportation for final review.
The council passed a resolution unanimously to authorize the county highway department to proceed with the public bidding process.
Fireworks
The city entered into a contract with a new fireworks provider, North Star Fireworks LLC of Brainerd.
