Nine Hornets in four different events will be competing at the state track and field meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School this week. The Class A state meet will kick off on Thursday afternoon with the preliminary competition and will wrap up on Friday afternoon with the finals. The Class AA and Class AAA finals will be held on Saturday. 

Advancing to state will be Hailey Selly, Elsie Ratz, Jayden Sonnenberg, Aubree Bristlin, Aynslee Johannsen, Lainey Jacobson, Katie Courneya and Brynn Larson as members or alternates on the 4×200-meter and 4×400-meter relay teams.

Sonnenberg also advanced to state individually in the high jump and Brady Crabtree in the pole vault.

Frazee qualified for the Section 6A meet in 21 different events as the Hornets were near the top of the standings throughout the day. As a team, the Hornet girls finished in third place behind just Long Prairie-Grey Eagle with 92 points and Sauk Centre with 86.5 points. The Hornets finished with 83 points, while the boys team took sixth place with 49.5 points.

Leading the charge for the Hornets was Aynslee Johannsen who took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.41, while Jayden Sonnenberg took first place in the high jump with a jump of 5’1”. Johannsen took sixth place in the event with a jump of 4’7”. Sonnenberg also took third place in the triple jump with a jump of 33’10 1/2” and Leslie Moore took third place in the shot put with a throw of 33’ 1/2”. 

Hailey Selly took third place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.9 and Elsie Ratz took fourth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.02. Selly also took fourth place in the long jump with a jump of 15’9 3/4” and Ratz took fifth place with a jump of 14’11 1/2”. 

The 4×200-meter relay and the 4×400-meter relay teams both captured first place at the sub section meet with times of 1:50.21 and 4:15.86. 

On the boys side, Brady Crabtree captured first place in the pole vault with a vault of 13’6”. His teammate Tyden Schaefer finished in fourth place with a vault of 10’6”. Crabtree also finished in third place in the triple jump with a jump of 39’10 1/2” to finish just behind teammate Nathan Longfors who took second place with a jump of 41’. 

In the long jump, Alex Helmers took fourth place with a jump of 19’1 1/2”, while Schaefer finished in fifth place with a jump of 18’11”. 

Carter Sonnenberg secured a third place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5’10” to also qualify for the section meet. 

Also qualifying for the section meet was the 4×200-meter boys relay team, Aynslee Johannsen in the high jump, Lainey Jacobson in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, Lola Hoehne in the 1600-meter run and Aubree Bristlin in the 200-meter dash.

Thursday

Nine Hornets will be making the trek to the Twin Cities this week for the state track and field meet. 

Hailey Selly, Elsie Ratz, Jayden Sonnenberg, Aubree Bristlin, Aynslee Johannsen, Lainey Jacobson, Katie Courneya and Brynn Larson were all either members or alternates on the first place 4×200-meter relay team that finished with a time of 1:49.17 or the first place 4×400-meter relay team that finished with a time of 4:10.22 and will advance to state.

Sonnenberg also advanced to state individually in the high jump as she took third place with a jump of 5’1”. She also took fifth place in the triple jump with a jump of 34’3 1/2”. Leslie Moore took sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 32’9”. 

On the boys side, Brady Crabtree will wrap up his senior season at the state track meet in the pole vault after taking second place in the event at the section meet with a vault of 13’4”. 

Nathan Longfors took sixth place in the triple jump with a jump of 41’7 1/2” and Carter Sonnenberg took sixth place in the high jump with a jump of 6’. 

In addition to the state qualifying teams, Ratz broke her own school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.31. She finished in third place in the event and just missed out on a trip to state individually.
