Notes from the Chief

Notes from the Farm…Well, things on the farm have finally slowed down. We are making a few repairs on the hay cutters then cleaning them up for winter storage. All the pastures are hanging in there and this year is one of the best pasture years I can remember.

Daily chores this late in the summer are feeding a few pails of corn to the fats we are raising to butcher. The other pen of fats are eating out of the creep feeder and we need to fill that every 10 days or so.

I am trying to figure out how to move our scale and chute into the old milking barn. This will help with preg checking and weaning in late October. Being under shelter would be quite a treat for us as we are always fighting the cold, wind, rain and mud in the spring and fall.

The corrals we have function great in the current layout, but there are several rotten railroad ties that need to be replaced and the mud is no fun to work in.
