Frazee-Vergas School District students were all smiles as they finished their first day of school last week. The school district opened the school year with a K-12 enrollment of 874 students. The elementary school has a total enrollment of 453 students and the high school’s enrollment was at 421 students on the opening day.
Members of the Vergas Economic Development Authority plan to seek the city council’s approval for a housing study. The request is to apply for an Otter Tail County $5,000 grant, which would need to be matched with $5,000 in city funds. The EDA vote for the action took place on Tuesday, Sept. 3, during its regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
Trimming trees, shrubs and removing stumps can be a tedious chore. Now, the Frazee and Vergas area have a notion to hire a local professional to tackle the task. Scott Tyge and Luke Weidemann joined forces and opened SnL Enterprises Tree Services.

The city’s recent ticketing of blight appears to be cleaning up the city and ticketing will continue. That was the synopsis of a discussion on the ticketing process currently being used in the city. During Tuesday’s Frazee City Council meeting, there were some complaints about the process and who has, so far, received tickets for blight. In the last month or so, nine city administrative tickets for $100 each have been issued for blight concerns covered under the city nuisance ordinance.
The City of Frazee will pay up to $5,000 for a site plan for a 31-acre plot of land on the west edge of Main Avenue. During Tuesday’s Frazee City Council meeting, Becker County Economic Developer Al Roder requested a site plan for streets, water and sewer services for a 31-acre piece of property planned for a industrial park.

Three new members were recently inducted into the Frazee Mrs. Jaycees chapter: Wanda Walseth, Kathy Carlson and Barb Anderson.
Evergreen Ceramics, a new business operated by Carol and Norbert Litzau of rural Frazee, is now open at their home in Evergreen. The Litmus are now accepting registrations for classes in ceramics. They also offer greenware and gifts for sale and custom firing.
Voters in Becker County nominated two candidates for Sheriff and 4th District Commissioner at the primary election held Tuesday. Jerry Townsend and Larry Person were the top vote getters from a field of five candidates in the race for Sheriff and will be on the Nov. general election.
