Hornets match 2023 win total, improve to 3-1 in HOL Conference

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Frazee Hornets have already matched last season’s win total as the Hornets improved to 10-8 last week with four wins in six games.
On Monday the Hornets defeated Mahnomen/Waubun 3-0 in non-conference action, before improving to 3-1 in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action with a 3-1 win over Staples-Motley. On Saturday, Frazee traveled to Barnesville for a tournament and went 2-2 overall with 3-0 wins over Battle Lake and Menahga, before falling 2-1 to Barnesville and Fertile-Beltrami.
This week the Hornets hosted Menahga on Monday night, before hosting Perham on Thursday in another HOL Conference matchup.
Monday
Frazee overwhelmed Mahnomen/Waubun 3-0 in non-conference action last Monday night. The Hornets secured wins by scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-16 to completed the sweep.
Ruby Eckert had one of her best games at the net of the season as she finished with 12 kills, while Hailee Olson finished with 23 assists and Katie Courneya led the way with 14 digs on the night. Olson also had a huge night from the service line as the senior finished with seven ace serves in the win.

Thursday
Staples-Motley was able to get the best of the Hornets in the first game as the Cardinals defeated Frazee 25-23, but it was the Hornets who got the last laugh as they went on to secure a 3-1 win on HOL action on Thursday night. After falling in the first set the Hornets went on to secure wins in the next three games by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 to pick up their third conference win of the season.
Frazee is currently in third place in the conference and trail just Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at 6-0 and Breckenridge at 4-0 in the conference standings.
Ruby Eckert once again had a solid night at the net as the freshman finished with 17 kills to go along with a pair of ace serves. Fellow freshman Aynslee Johannsen finished with 13 kills, while Jayden Sonnenberg chipped in with eight kills of her own.
Hailee Olson kept the hitters busy all night as the senior finished with 39 assists. Sophia Strand led a balanced defensive attack with 23 digs, while Katie Courneya finished with 18 and Eckert finished with 14 digs.

The Hornets went 2-2 at the Barnesville tournament on Saturday as the Hornets picked up 2-0 wins over Menahga (25-18, 25-15) and Battle Lake (25-23, 25-17), before falling to Fertile-Beltrami and Breckenridge (25-15, 14-25, 5-15).
