0Ruby Anne McVane, 51, passed away in her home with her daughter by her side, on October 19, 2024 from cardiac arrest. This occurred after a long battle with heart disease and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Ruby was born in Neenah, WI to parents Patricia and Jonn McVane. She and her family moved to the Frazee/Vergas area during her elementary years. She lived there her entire life, except for a few years during her early adult life. Ruby attended elementary and high school at Perham and Detroit Lakes. She went to East Grand Forks Community College after high school where she studied to be a chiropractic assistant and was very involved in student government. She then moved back to Detroit Lakes where she worked as a scheduler for a home health agency.
At that time, she married and devoted herself to her family and home. She had three beautiful children who were the joy of her heart: Alexandra, Anjelika and Jonn. Despite many health challenges, Ruby was committed to loving her family and supporting her children in any way she could until the end of her life.
Ruby had a generous, giving heart. She would be willing to give someone the shirt off her back and was tireless in trying to support those in need. She didn’t have much to give but her time, but was generous with encouraging phone calls, texts, cards, prayers and hugs to those around her. She was a loyal friend and mother and tried to help others whenever she saw a need, even if they were strangers. Despite the challenges of her health and life, she never lost her joy and positivity, always believing that she had something to give to help those around her. She worked diligently to try to make the world a better place for those around her.
Ruby loved the Lord, and gladly shared with anyone how much God had done for her. She was always ready with a scripture or prayer to share to encourage someone, and often talked about how much she loved the Lord and her readiness to go home to be with Him. She was not afraid to die, knowing that she would be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, after this life was over.
Ruby is survived by her children, Alexandra McVane of Frazee, Anjelika Gunderson of Detroit Lakes, and Jonn Gunderson of Detroit Lakes; brother Jason (Mark) Laske of Rochester, MN; sister-in-heart “Tia” Talitha (Jason) Sannes-Venhuizen of Frazee; uncle Lee (Marion) Laske of Raleigh, NC; and numerous other cousins, friends and family of the heart.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia McVane; father Jonn McVane; grandparents, uncles and aunts.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 am at Lake Region Mennonite Church, Frazee, MN with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the hurricane relief fund at mbfoundation.com, which was a concern on Ruby’s heart in the weeks before she died.
