The search for a new Perham Fastpitch Softball coach has concluded, Perham Activities Director Erin Anderson announced that Kevin Feldt has been named the new head coach, pending school board approval.
Feldt will replace Jason Groth, who stepped down after four seasons leading the Yellowjackets.
Excited about the opportunity, Feldt looks forward to stepping into the role.
“It’s an incredible opportunity,” Feldt said. “I had the chance to work with some of these girls last summer, and when I heard the position was opening, I jumped at it.”
Anderson said we had several good candidates for this position and we are excited with what Feldt will bring to the program.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Feldt aboard as the new head coach for this program. His energy and enthusiasm for the game, and his commitment to serve students, will prove valuable in many ways,” Anderson said. “I have no doubt Coach Feldt will be fully invested in the program and ensure its growth that has been built in prior seasons.”
Feldt has been a member of the Perham Wrestling Coaching Staff for 15 years and has worked with the Perham Softball program as a summer coach for multiple seasons.
“I grew up as a three-sport athlete and love ball,” Feldt said. “I have worked with my kids in summer leagues. I’ve been working with the wrestling program for 15 years and with the varsity level for the last six. I love working with kids.”
One of Feldt’s main goals is to grow and sustain athlete participation in the program.
“I hope to continue to bring athletes into the program and help them continue to learn and grow
in the sport of softball,” Feldt said.
Fundamentals are the foundation of Feldt’s coaching philosophy.
“It’s basic stuff. Fundamentals win matches in wrestling, and the same principle applies to softball,” Feldt said. “Making plays when needed. I understand we are not going to make every play, but it’s how we react after that. How are we going to continue to play the game after the play has been made? My thing is going to be fundamentals, bringing fun to the game and keeping it fun, while continuing to learn and grow.”
Feldt and the Yellowjacket Softball team start their season with their first practice on March 10, eager to build on a strong foundation of fundamentals and team growth.
