On the early morning of Monday, Feb. 17, at approximately 5:14 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a suspicious activity call on County Hwy. 29, near Eagle Lake Road, south of Frazee. It was reported that someone was pounding on the door of a residence.
Upon arrival, Deputies’ Michael McCombs and Adam Winter learned that a male passenger, from the vehicle involved, had fled on foot and had active warrants out for his arrest for 5th Degree Assault, Disorderly Conduct, and Trespassing.
There were extremely cold temperatures that morning with a windchill of -45 degrees Fahrenheit.
Deputy Winter and K9 Rex began tracking the male from where the male’s tracks came out to the highway. They tracked to where the tracks went back into the snow and tall grass, crossing fences, to where they located the male face down in the snow.
The male was not responding to commands by Deputy Winter and appeared to be having medical issues due to exposure to the extreme cold. The male was then transported to Essentia-St. Mary’s Hospital by St. Mary’s EMS and later taken to jail on his warrants.
