Section True Team meet set for Tuesday in PR

The Frazee Hornets are gearing up for a busy final stretch of the regular season with a pair of meets last week.

After traveling to Barnesville on Tuesday night, the Hornets made the trek to Hawley for the United Clay Becker Booster Invite.

The Hornets are scheduled to host a home meet on Tuesday night, before heading to Detroit Lakes on Thursday for another invite.

Next Tuesday Frazee will travel to Pelican Rapids for the annual Section 6A True Team meet. 

Tuesday

Freshman Aynslee Johannsen picked up three top two finishes to help lead the charge in a difficult Barnesville Booster Invite on Tuesday night. Johannsen captured first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 16.29, while she was also a member of the second place 4×200-meter relay team with Brynn Larson, Aubree Bristlin and Jayden Sonnenberg who finished with a time of 1:53.69. Her second runner up finish was as a member of the 4×400-meter relay team with Madilyn Perrine, Katie Courneya and Jayden Sonnenberg who finished with a time of 4:24.48. 

Larson and Sonnenberg also had a solid night in the field with Larson posting a season best jump in the high jump to finish in fourth place at 5’, while Sonnenberg posted a pair of season best jumps in the high jump to finish in fifth place with a jump of 5’ and the triple jump as she finished in sixth place with a jump of 32’5”.

On the boys side, Tyden Schaefer took first place in the pole vault with a vault of 11’6”, while also posting a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles to capture fifth place with a time of 16.35.

Ayden Grossman posted three personal bests as he took second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.5, while also posting a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.8 to finish in seventh place. He also posted a personal best in the long jump with a jump of 18’6 1/2” to finish in fifth place. 

Carter Sonnenberg also had a solid night on the track as he posted a personal best in the long jump to finish in fourth place with a jump of 18’8 1/2”, while also posting a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles to finish in sixth place with a time of 46.67. 

The 4×200-meter relay team of Grossman, Shaefer, Sonnenberg and William Stroburg finished in second place with a time of 1:36.61. 

On the boys side, Frazee finished in a fifth place tie with Breckenridge with 47 team points. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton took first place with a team score of 172, while Minnewaska Area was second with 166 points. There were 10 teams competing in the meet.

On the girls side the Hornets took sixth place with a team score of 64.33 points. Minnewaska Area took first place with a team score of 153.83, while Pelican Rapids was second with a team score of 116.33. There were eight teams competing in the meet.

Thursday

Frazee picked up three first place finishes and five more runner up finishes at the United Clay Becker Booster Invite in Hawley on Thursday night.

Tyden Schaefer picked up a pair of those first place finishes as he posted a personal best in the long jump with a jump of 19’7”, while also finishing first with another personal best in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.38. He added a second place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 12’ as well as in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 23.14. 

Carter Sonnenberg nabbed a first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 16:48, while finishing in second place in the high jump with a jump of 6’. 

The 4×200-meter relay tea of William Stroburg, Sebastian Sonnenberg, Ayden Grossman and Carter Sonnenberg finished in second place with a time of 1:38.17. 

On the girls side, Aynslee Johannsen finished in second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 51.68, while she also finished in third place in the long jump with a season best jump of 14’9 1/2”. 

Ava Leishman also finished near the top of the podium for the Hornets as the freshman took third place with a personal best time of 13.54 in the 100-meter dash. 

As a team, the Frazee boys placed fourth with a team score of 83. Perham won the meet with a score of 139.5, while United Clay Becker took second with 134 points and Park Christian finished in third place with 99 points. There were 10 teams at the meet.

On the girls side, Frazee finished fifth with 45 points, behind just Perham with 194 points, United Clay Becker with 104 points, Barnesville with 89 points and Park Christian with 72 points. There were 11 teams competing at the meet.
