Frazee falls to Perham to drop to 6-4 in HOL

After opening its week with a convincing 15-3 win over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal, the Hornets ran into a bit of a buzz saw to end the week as the Frazee Hornets dropped three straight to end the week.

  The Hornets fell to Hawley by a score of 19-4 on Tuesday, Parkers Prairie by a score of 13-1 on Thursday and Perham by a score of 10-0 on Friday to fall to 9-7 overall.

This week the Hornets faced Menahga on Monday, Dilworth-Glyndon Felton on Tuesday and Breckenridge as part of a doubleheader on Thursday to wrap up their regular season. 

Monday

Frazee pumped out 13 hits and 15 runs as they overwhelmed Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Monday by a score of 15-3. 

Frazee scored six runs in both the first and third innings, while adding three more runs in the second inning. The opening nine Hornet hitters of the game reached base safely as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Asher Blaine put Frazee on the scoreboard with an RBI single, before he would later score on an error. Noah Mekalson put the Hornets up 4-0 with a two-run double, before Chase Ullrich hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to make the score 6-0. 

NCE/UH made the score 6-3 in the top of the second inning, before Frazee added three more runs in a Mekalson sacrifice fly and a two-run single by Blake Sonnenberg. 

Frazee scored six more runs in the third inning to jump out to a 15-3 lead. 

Blaine led the way offensively with three hits, three runs and two RBIs, while Karson Krause and Sonnenberg each finished with two hits in the win.

Adam Vigen picked up the win on the mound as he went all five innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs. He walled six hitters and struck out eight to get the win.

Tuesday

Hawley scored 10 runs in the first inning and scored at least one run in every inning except for the top of the fifth inning to come away with a 19-4 on Tuesday night.

Frazee committed 10 errors in the loss that led to 14 unearned runs in the loss. In fact, Frazee outhit the Nuggets by a 6-5 margin. The Hornets scored two runs in the third inning off an Asher Blaine RBI triple and a Noah Mekalson RBI single, while adding two more runs in the fifth inning on a two-run triple by Mekalson. 

The Hornets were led by Mekalson who went 2-2 with three RBIs, while Blaine went 2-3 with three runs scored. 

Blake Sonnenberg took the loss on the mound as he gave up four hits, six walks and 15 runs only three of which were earned over three innings.

Thursday

Frazee committed eight errors that led to eight unearned runs as the Hornets dropped their second straight game, this time by a score of 13-1 to Parkers Prairie. 

The Panthers scored six runs in the second inning to take an early lead, before adding one in the third, two in the fifth and four more runs in the sixth inning.

The lone Hornet run came in the third inning when Adam Vigen scored on a Conner Erickson fielder’s choice. Erickson led the way offensively with a pair of hits.

Noah Mekalson took the loss on the mound as he went five innings, giving up 10 hits, nine runs but just one of which was earned, two walks and five strikeouts.

Friday

The Frazee Hornets ended the week with a tough 10-0 loss to Perham on Friday night. 

The Hornets managed just two hits in the game and committed five errors in the loss.

Asher Blaine took the loss on the mound as he went four innings, six hits, 10 runs of which eight were earned, three walks and six strikeouts.

Blaine and Noah Mekalson picked up singles for Frazee against the Yellowjackets.
