Perham Yellowjacket Activities Director Erin Anderson announced Grant Dierkhising has been named the new Head Boys Basketball Coach. The move is pending approval of the 549 Independent School Board, which convenes on May 14.

“We are thrilled to announce Grant Dierkhising as the next Head Coach of the Yellowjacket Boys Basketball program! Grant’s years of dedication, leadership, and passion for our student-athletes have made a lasting impact, and we have the utmost respect for the way he has poured his heart into this program. We’re excited for this new chapter under his guidance and can’t wait to see the continued growth and success of Yellowjacket basketball,” Anderson stated.

Dierkhising replaces Kyle Haberman, who recently stepped down as Head Boys Basketball Coach and Social Studies Teacher at Perham High School. Haberman and his staff led the Yellowjackets to the Heart O’ Lakes Conference Championship during the 2024-25 season.

Dierkhising expressed excitement for the opportunity.

“I am extremely excited to be the next Head Coach for Perham Boys Basketball! This program has had decades of success and with how supportive the district, school board, administration, community, and parents are, I am eager to get started and carry on that tradition,” Dierkhising said. “With over eleven years of coaching experience here in Perham, I feel confident and prepared to lead our student-athletes and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.”

Dierkhising, a Phy-Ed and Health teacher with Perham Public Schools, has served as a longtime assistant coach for former Head Coach Dave Cresap and joined Haberman’s staff as his assistant after he was named head coach. He also serves as a football assistant coach and has worked as an analyst on the 549 Media Network.
