Tovin Sannes-Venhuizen sent invites to his high school graduation party months ago. Then the graduation ceremony was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He decided to go ahead with his party plans. “I didn’t want to push it out any further,” he said. “I’m hoping to still have things happening this summer and didn’t want to have that on my to-do list.” The 17-year-old that turns 18 in June said his family waited until the week of the event to put together plan for a drive-thru party. “We heard talk that they may lift it a week early, so we were waiting to see,” he said.
The Frazee City Council agreed to offer three owners of rental units an extended period to complete annual rental registration renewal requirements. During the monthly council meeting, which was held via conference video chat on Monday, May 11, Frazee City Administrator Denise Anderson reported that three rental owners had been contacted multiple times prior to the meeting, but there had been no response. Councilman Mike Sharp noted in the past there have been “stragglers” and suggested one more letter be sent to those rental unit owners to explain the renewal needed to be done by the end of the month, otherwise enforcement may follow.

A Christian pre-school is being planned for the Vergas area. Facilities co-chairmen David Antonsen and LeRoy Kicker appeared at a special meeting of the Vergas City Council Monday to discuss procedural details. The school is to be sponsored by the sister Vergas area Lutheran congregations of St. John’s and St. Paul’s, Loon Lake. Not members of the churches’ Pre-School Board, Antonsen and Kicker were not prepared to discuss details of the school, but they said it is to be for 3- and 4-year-old children, it is to be taught by someone who is certified in early childhood education, and the aim is to have it in operation by September.
The contract for Wolf Lake’s sewer project was awarded to Young Excavating of Hackensack, Minn. at the May 9 meeting of the Wolf Lake City Council. Young’s bid, for $207,000, was the lowest of five submitted. The council’s acceptance is dependent on reviews by the Wolf Lake city attorney, the federal Rural Development Agency, and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Councilman Cory Ylitalo cautioned. The project is expected to start in mid-June and last about four weeks, he said.

Three judges judged the band on their two contest numbers and a fourth judge graded the band on a sight-reading exercise. Of the four judges, three rated the Frazee Band a superior rating. This earned the Band a State-Region trophy again this year.
