Frazee Legion defeats NYM 7-5 to end regular season

Members of the Frazee and New York Mills Legion baseball teams gathered on the field following Thursday’s game to pay tribute to the late Blake Unger. The NY Mills High School graduate died as a result of injuries he suffered in an accident following a late May sub section baseball game between the two teams. Frazee came away with a 7-5 win in Thursday’s Legion game.

Frazee Post 15 picked up a 7-5 win over New York Mills on Wednesday night in nine innings.
Post 15 wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Karson Krause hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Andrew Aho across the plate to score. Asher Blaine scored on a wild pitch, before Blake Sonnenberg connected with a two out single to bring Noah Mekalson across the plate to give Frazee a 3-0 lead.
NY Mills answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 3-2, before Frazee loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second inning. Blaine brought a run across the plate on a fielder’s choice, before Noah Mekalson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 5-2 in favor of Frazee.
After NY Mills scored a run in the bottom of the second inning, Frazee once again loaded up the bases to open the top of the third inning, before Connor Erickson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 6-3 in favor of Post 15.
NY Mills added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, before Krause was hit with the bases loaded to give Frazee a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. NY Mills was able to get the tying run in scoring position and had the winning run on first base in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, before Drew Mekalson struck out the final batter of the game to preserve the 7-5 win for Frazee.
Blaine led the way offensively for Frazee with a pair of hits, while he also secured the win on the mound as he pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up four hits, three runs of which two were earned and struck out 12 batters. Drew Mekalson pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and gave up three hits, two runs and struck out five batters.
With the win, Frazee improved to 5-6 on the season.
