Lace up those shoes and run toward some family fun in Frazee on July 25. While the official Turkey Days celebration was put on the shelf for 2020 there are several events still taking place, including a 5K run hosted by Miss Frazee Outstanding Teen Braylee Riewer. The 16-year-old decided to hold the healthy activity because the traditional Delores Smith Memorial 5K wasn’t taking place.

McKenna O’Brien recently learned of her nomination of Positive Athlete of Minnesota Award. Her head coach in softball, Matt Bauer nominated her because as he put it, she is a dream player for coaches. “She gives 100 percent with everything,” Bauer said. “Her attitude, her effort and her coach ability is excellent.”

Just two weeks before Governor Tim Walz is expected to make an announcement regarding the state of school in the fall, the Frazee-Vergas School Board heard an update on three plans the district will need to have in place before the start of the school year. During its regularly scheduled meeting last Monday night, Frazee-Vergas Schools Superintendent Terry Karger walked the school board through three preliminary plans to deal with the uncertainty surrounding school due to COVID-19.

Once upon a time, the gospel was preached to Finnish-speaking Wolf Lake area Lutherans by a traveling pastor, Rev. Solberg. But that was more than a century ago. June 24, 1900, the congregation now called Christ Lutheran Church of Wolf Lake was formed. And now it’s 100 years old. Its centennial will be Saturday and Sunday. Many festivities are planned.

It will be kind of like a progressive smorgasbord on Frazee’s Main Avenue. Each participating business (or church or organization) will be serving some kind of food, such as hot dogs, brats, watermelon or strawberry shortcake. People can just stroll from business to business and eat and eat. Outdoors. Different things from tables in front of of each business, church or organization. For two hours. At no charge. It’s the Frazee Food Fair, which is a 4-6 p.m. Friday, July 28 feature of this year’s Frazee Turkey Days.

It was a logical action to follow a previous action. After last week’s approval of selling Vergas’ old double tennis court property and working on a new single court, the Vergas City Council June 13 voted to advertise for the sale of the current court property.

This past June, Mrs. Puetz resigned from her position. She and her husband, John are presently enjoying the leisure living at their home on Boot Lake.
